All I know is that Ada Farmer had a son, Fred Farmer out of wedlock back in 1912. He was born in Upton Leicestershire. She was said to have worked for a wealthy family as a housekeeper (was only young) had a bit of a fling with the head of the house (as the story goes) Grandad never spoke of her, She was said to have had a drink problem but later in life married and had another son, who is belived to have moved to Australia. Fred moved to Earl Shilton.

If anyone can HELP I would be really really grateful. I just want to know as much as I can about that side of my family.

Thanks in hope
Cindy

Hi Cindy,

The marriage is of Ada Farmer to Frederick Nickells and this was after your Fred Farmer was born so it could be her.

The Ada I found in 1901 has a brother called Fred so maybe it's the one and she named her son after her brother.

Do you have Fred Farmers birth cert to see if Ada had a middle name?

Here is Freds birth reg in the first qtr 1913 but he could have been born late 1912 as they had 6 weeks to register the birth

Hi,

Suggest you try and trace this Ada's date of birth and reference details and then apply for a copy of her birth certificate to confirm her Father's name and occupation. Looks as though this was:
Ada Annie Famer
Jan-Mar 1892
Volume 7A
Page 64
Try looking on the original copy of the Census and it will tell you who her employer was.

I have found a possible link to my family via a family that lived in Atherstone in 1911 (found on the new census) he was Wiliam (something) Stafford 36, he was head of the house, married to Emily Maud Mary Stafford 30 and they had a 3 year old son Ernest Henry Stafford. Then there is there servant Ada Farmer. The house was 1 Holte Villas, Atehrstone. If you are connected to this family I would love to hear from you as I have some questions with regards to my Great grandma, that you may or may not be able to help.

It might be part of the family that is black lists, I can explain more if you ask.

Thank you so much for any help

thank you, but I believe Ada is a servant in the house in 1911 aged 19 and in 1912 she had a son Fred Farmer. he is my granddad, he has passsed away now but he never know his father and we believe the head of the house was his dad. Could this be with the info you have given and why would her surname be Farmer if he was her dad with a surname of Stafford?

Sorry if the information is a bit blurry

Hi Cindy,
William's father,Richard, is shown as born April-June 1846 Sheepy Leicestershire and per the Censuses he was a Hat Manufacturer. Using Richard's entries on the Censuses there are 9 matches to Family Trees.

Cindy

Cindy Report 29 Jan 2011 21:25

how that is great news how do I find them family trees, sorry

Perchino

Perchino Report 29 Jan 2011 21:39

You made need to upgrade your membership.
At the top of this page click on"Search Trees"
Enter Richard's details using 1881 Census as above
Click on "Search" and matches should appear very quickly.
Then select nearest match and follow instructions on screen to make contact. Usual to start with brief message with details of name, year of birth and location of your record of match with a request if these match with other's tree. Not a good idea to allow access to your or request immediate access to another's Tree. Unfortunately not everyone replies.

Hi Cindy,
Delighted to be of assistance.

This website may be very interesting for you:-

http://www.hunimex.com/warwick/bmd/atherstone_marr_1899-1908.html

There is a marriage of Richard Stafford (Hat Manufacturer) to Annie Gertrude on 10 June 1908.

Do you know who Ada married after Fred was born and the name of her son from this marriage.

If the birth cert doesn't give the name of a father, you must remember that what you have been told may only be a story and you will not be able to prove anything.

Where Ada was in 1911 doesn't mean that she was also working for the same people when Fred was born in 1916.

Perchino Report 30 Jan 2011 09:04

Hi Christine,
Does this mean that your posting on 21 April 2008 (see above) showing Fred's birth registration in March 1913 (possibly born 1912) is inaccurate as this could change possibilities in the situation.

ChristineinPortugal

ChristineinPortugal Report 30 Jan 2011 14:09

Sorry I got the dates mixed up, it was the possible marriage for Ada in 1916 and the birth in the 1st qtr of 1913.

Without more acurate details about Ada it's only a guess at the moment that the one found on the census as Ada A is the correct one.

No Fred was born Dec 24th 1912. that much I know is fact! and his mother is Ada, who once remarried had another son then, then the facts gets a little blurry as grand dad(Fred) did not want to talk about his mum, partly due to the fact she was a drunk, but either Ada and her new family moved or just the new son moved over seas. I do have Fred's marrage Certificate some where that I will try to find out and see if I can find any more info from it.

THANK YOU, all that are helping.
another question Is there any where I can go to see the hard copies of information on here?

thanks again cindy
