Alida,
My Grandmother was a "Ferns", she was born in Onecote in Staffordshire in 1907 one of 14 children. There are many descendants in the Leek/Ashbourne/Buxton area I dont know if she is a descendant of Thomas you are searching for? I think there may be a possibility? Inez

I see Benjamin did live in London, so the marriage to Ellen Denny is almost certainly correct, given his occupation:

Thomas Fern/Ferns/Farren wife appears to be Anna, which is also used interchangeably with Hannah, so I think this is the right family, and ties in with the marriage ValT posted earlier to Hannah Bramwell in 1829.

census 1851:

>>>FARREN, Thomas Head Married M 45 1806 Mason Staffordshire
FARREN, Anna Wife Married F 45 1806 Derbyshire
FARREN, Emma Daughter F 14 1837 Staffordshire
FARREN, Alfred Son M 12 1839 Staffordshire
FARREN, George Son M 5 1846 Paddington
>>>>FERREN, Benjamin Son M 2 1849 St Pancras Middlesex

Alida
I see that you are from the Ferns family, South Africa.
My Great Gran Catherine Terry was born a Ferns. My understanding is that her family came from Lesotho and Bloemfontein area.
Have you come accross a Catherine Ferns in your search?
If so, do you have any other information on the Ferns family?
