I'm trying to find information on the France side of my Family and was hoping maybe someone may have info to help me. My grandfather mother was called Clara France, she was born in Goldthorpe, South Yorks in 1908 to Rose Harriet France (Higginbottom) and John William France. My grandfather tells me that John's father moved over to America in the mid 1800's and fought on the side of the Union in the civil war. After the war he came back to Stalybridge with his American wife who later died of TB. I'm not sure when it was but my grandfather also tells me that he later hung himself, he also had a brother who died in what I believe was a quarrying accident at Coal Pitt Mines in Ashton, Lancashire. I have no names of the man who fought in the civil war nor a name of his American wife. Maybe you have come across the same ancestor in your tree if so please get in touch. Many thanks and brgds, Michael |
