GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 2 Jun 2009 19:11

How do you know he was born in Islington?

Are you presuming that as the marriage is registered in Islington that was where he was born?

For fellow hunters! It seems Alfred was a stonemason on the marriage cert, not sure if this helps as still can't find them!

Re jansmith 1861 census,I have tried without success to find the info. on Ancestry It is possible that the father's middle name was used in one of the entries,(Marriage cert/census).I was given the same first name as my father and was called by another name within the close family.I hope that this gets through ,I have been having problems with the reply button.

After Gillian's input on the 1901 census I looked at the original form and found that the address of the residence matched that on William's birth registration but the final "s" had been left off the name, also on the same form, living next door, was a Sarah Hales ,a widow of 72yrs. Can you tell me if there is a way of finding if there a family connection. She is of an age to be Edwards mother.Thank you
WillG.

Thank you for the 1871 Sarah input, I have searched, but have yet to make a connection with Edward,he would be about 14 yrs at that time and could havebeen living elsewhere. He is not shown in the '61 census either The road names were changed between '61 and'71 But the family remained in the same house during this time. They lived in a poor area, as a labourer the father would expect to earn about 18/- to21/- per week, for about 9 months of the year,Pay 5/- to7/-6 d per week for a room and pay 1/-3d for 1cwt. of coal a hard life!
