Find Ancestors

Hi everyone

Can anyone tell me if they don't mind whether there is anywhere you can find details of someone who was a Prisoner of War, unfortunately he did die in 1914 so would like to try and look a bit further into it if I am able to.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Yes, I have found his grave, etc, was just wondering whether their were any records which I would be able to find, to see what happened to him - bit of a long shot I think

I wish I knew what to suggest, Middy. You wonder what did he die from? Was he wounded before he was taken prisoner?

Exactly, the only thing I know was he died as a prisoner of war, but nothing more, why, how, etc - I would love to be able to find out but don't seem to be having much luck (maybe there are no records I suppose)

Have you looked on ancestry to see if his service record is there?

What about the local paper for his home area?

If you don't have access to Ancestry, Middy, I'd be happy to look up his military records if you want to post his name.

Many thanks for replying, Ancestry is where I found the information - he is buried in ASCQ Communal Cemetary in France.

His name is William Thomas Ing of the 9th Lancers

Ancestry says he was killed in action. Where did you get the info that he was a POW?

On the Roll of Honour memorial in Canterbury

In case you may be interested the War Graves Photographic Project have photograhed his headstone.

This is available by email or a hard copy by post, they do include othere details of the cemetery etc.
However they do ask for a donation of £3-00 by email or £5-00 by post.
