Hello Lancashireann,
I have done a little research on this tree. A cordswainer is in fact another name for a Shoe Maker. Cannell / Quirk is now a strong possibility. On future Census' they state they were born in IOM. Could it be they both lived in Liverpool before marraige and therefore gave their details as Spinster of Liverpool and Cordswainer of Liverpool. What do you think? I have had no joy looking at the IOM sites.

Regards
Suzanne

I would have thought it unlikely that John changed from being a mariner to a bootmaker and with the date discrepancy as well probably the wrong one. Pity. I think I would go for trying to find a marriage in the IOM.

Lancashireann,

dont know if the marraige at St, Peters is the right one and john was a shoe maker on the 1841 census. Would they have been married so long after the birth of there first child?

I will need to look into that.
thanks for your help its very much appreciated.
Cheers

Lancashireann,

The family church is St Peters. I think that the Ann that was christened there on 30th June 1834 is the one I am looking for. John Cannell there son was christened there on 18th Jan 1836 and James 24th March 1839. All 3 of these children have their parents listed as John and Elizabeth Cannell.

Thanks for your info and help

Thanks for that info. I can now rule out Elizabeth Quirk, unfortunately!

Dont know where to look now. I would hate to think I have come to a dead end already!

Thanks for your help.

thanks Ann,
I have taken a look on Mormon LDS website and found the wedding. Cant find out though if Elizabeth Quirk was born in IOM as there were a couple of Elizabeth Quirks born in Liverpool at around the same time. I thought maybe if John and Elizabeth were both from Douglas they may have married before coming to Liverpool.

Thanks for your help

Thanks Tania,

That could be him.
Any idea on how can I find out if Elizabeth Quirk was also from Douglas IOM?
There first child was born in May or June of 1834. Elizabeth would have been 5 or 6 months pregnant by the time they married, do you think that was the norm in those day?

I will look into the Quirk family and see what I can find.
Thanks for your help

I am trying to find information about John Cannell and his wife Elizabeth. John was born Douglas IOM 1805 and Elizabeth 1803. The lived in Liverpool and I have found them on the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census. They were married before 1837 so how can I trace when they came to Liverpool and what Elizabeths maiden name was. Obviously Cannell is a very popular IOM name and struggling on where to look. Can anyone help? Thanks
Suzanne
