I would be grateful if anyone can help me with the Cotter Family. I m looking for the dtails of one John Cotter who I think was born in1884 in Devon though there is I thik another John Cotter born in Plymouth about 1881. My John Cotter married Ruth Lloyd from Exeter in 1909. They had a son John W Cotter born 1910 in Plymouth. I am told John Cotter snr had a grandmother born in Ireland who died in Plymouth in the early 1920's at the age of 104. There was apparently an article written about her in the local plymouth paper that I would dearly love to find. Is there a record of her death that may lead us back to John's parents? Is he in the 1891 or 1901 census? Also looking for the death of John Cotter jnr around 1950. Dont know where exactly but he was enjoying (or not) His Majesty's or Her Majesty's pleasure at the time. Any help much appreciated. |

Certainly the date seems about right. Perhaps the story I was told wasn't quite right! Cant have been that many Cotters living to that age in Plymouth. Is there a death for John W Cotter anywhere around 1950ish Could have been Dartmoor, Isle of Wight or London I guess. |

The daughter of the first marriage is still alive. I dont think the Johanna is the right Cotter. |

Unfortunately the deaths are not yet transcribed for the 1950's so it would be a long trawl through the indexes |

Yeah ages werent often given correctly and there is also a 'john' with her, hes listed as 3yrs but he could be the John you have for 1884...without certificates its always going to be a guess |

John Cotter born in 1888. He would have been 20 or 21 when he married Ruth Lloyd. Is there a James and JOhanna in the ealier census. Polly Cotter could have been the mother. |

It's looking like the right family. Found the death of a Johanna Cotter in the early 20's and she is old. |
