Find Ancestors

I never new my grandma and have little information about her.
Her name was Dorothy Kirk and was born around 1915. I think she lived around the doncaster area. (Possibly Hatfield Woodhouse)
She gave birth to my dad adrian in 1950, after that she left and we cant find any information on her.

If anyone out there has knows anthing or has any advice, it would be very much appreciated.

Kirk is her Married name. I think her maiden name was draper. or the other way round, sorry its not much to go on.

What was your dad's name when born is he a Kirk or a Draper?

Sorry. She had Adrian with Ernest Tyas(1914)
My Dad was born Adrian Tyas.
Dorothy and ernest were never married. She was married to someone else, she had an affair with ernest.

Have now found your dad, Adrian Tyas born in 1950 2nd quarter in Don Valley, mmn kirk. So your Dorothy Kirk probably married a Draper I should imagine. Did your dad have any siblings or half siblings?

This could possibly be your nan. If the location is correct, this is the only one born in Doncaster between 1911 and 1920. Do you know if she is deceased?

Are you aware if she is alive or dead? You really need to work from now backwards so it will help if you know if the last event was her marriage or her death

That is her mother's maiden name but we need to know if that is the correct Dorothy Kirk first. We cant just guess. She may have been born later than you think especially if she had your dad in 1950. Do you have a copy of your dad's birth certificate, that should have your nan's maiden name on it and it should also say any other surnames she was formerly ie married names.

Ok, i have found it. It says Dorothy Draper (formally Kirk) thats all.

We need to find a marriage between Mr Draper and Dorothy Kirk. I shall start from 1940 and work forwards first I think.

I think Dorothys dad owned Bawtry road farm, Hatfield woodhouse. Does that help at all?

There were no marriages between Dorothy Kirk and Draper between 1940 and 1950. I will try 1930-1940 now.

I cannot locate a marriage for a Dorothy Kirk to a Draper at all. I have done 1921-1940 now. Are there any other names on the birth certificate.

There are only 2 possibilities,

1 I have missed it and
2 she was married before she married Mr Draper and therefore the marriage will be under her last married name.

Is your dad able to give you any help? Do you have living relatives who might be able to help with the missing years. If she is deceased obtaining a certificate may be the way forward

Well, I was going to say that the farm might still be owned by family, or the present owner might know the family -- and look at that.

Sometimes it's just so easy, eh? Not fair, I say! Everybody else finds his/her folks ... me, I'm still in the dark on the ones I need.

I hope Carl sees the info. Mind you, if I were him, I might not just go making a cold call -- although it does seem the relationship would be a little indirect, so it wouldn't be quite like saying Hi, I'm your brother!

Still might be a little delicate, though. Fortunately my own ancestors' funny goings-on went on a couple of generations farther back. Harder to figure out, but less likely to go shocking anybody here today!

I've found the information which has the contact name and number, just got to decide on how to approach them. I dont want to just jump in there, because they dont know who i am and it might seem a bit much to take in.
