Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 6 Dec 2009 11:16

I can access Crockfords Directory on Ancestry but the latest copy seems to be 1932.

I'm looking for Ralph George Lindley, b.1898. I know he was a priest, I'm fairly sure he was C of E, not sure when he was ordained though.

Can anyone help?

Thank you

Jill

Thanks Ginny - I thought it was me being extremely thick and not spotting him! I know Crockfords have their own website - but I don't want to pay out £30 for a year's sub ...

Cheers

Just did a free search on the site and nothing comes up under 'clergy' for him...

Do you know when he died? It might be worth looking at local papers for that time to see if any obituary for him. This may give more info

Hi Julia

Good thinking. I think I now know which church he might have been at - and it's fairly local so I will shoot down there next Saturday. If it is correct they might have a plaque or something about him.

Thank you

Jill

There is a Ralph Adrian Lindley b1920 in Bromley, mothers maiden name Phillips:

Surname Given Name Mother District Volume Page Transcriber

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Dec 1920
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lindley Ralph A. Phillips Bromley 2a 1025 tisberry

see following link:

Might be just a coincidence but I wonder if this might be a son of Ralph George?

Thanks for that Julia.

I will have to have a look at that one. I thought I'd found Ralph (senior's) marriage in the 1930s but he may well have been married before.

I will have to check it out.

Hi, sorry to butt in but may I throw in my twopennorth? If he was born in 1898 he was probably ordained around the mid 1920's. It may be worth checking your local library to see if they have a copy of Crockfords too - many do. Another thought may be to contact the diocese of the church he served at in case they have any records. (It will have a website)

Will butt out now!

Just curious as to whether you found anything further? Did you go to the church and was Ralph A Lindley connected in any way?

Hi Julia

Not had time yet and now a bit too near Christmas - I don't think they'd thank me if I strolled in tomorrow (when I have a day off work).

I am off between Christmas and New Year and it's on my list so fingers crossed!

Oh, not found any connection (yet) to Ralph A Lindley but it is curious so I've not given up on that one.

I have contacted Crockfords directly before and been sent information. Might be worth a try.

You might also find him in Oxford Alumni, a lot of clerics studied there.
