Find Ancestors

Can anyone help to put me on the right track.
I have been trying to trace my great grandmother, I have no date or place of birth.

thanks marilyn yes her name is Sarah Marshall, this is all that is on my grandfathers birth cert.

he was Thomas william Marshall born 11 nov 1884 at Page Bank,Stockley Willington County Durham. Mothers name Sarah Marshall, no fathers name or any age for her. I have tried quite a few sarahs from around 1861+but cant come up with anything and dont know where to go next

yes, 1891 and 1901 but living with different family, called Hutchinson in 1891 censu he is down as grandson in 1901 as adopted son. the head of house was John Hutchinson, wife Isabella. and living in catchgate and pontop, co. durham

would the parish where my grandfather was born hold any records. ie his baptism? or maybe sarahs if she came from the durham area

If he was christened it could be in the Parish re was born in and it could be worth checking the records, but would it tell you more than his birth cert. Sarah could have gone home to give birth so could have been christened in the parish

It's interesting that he kept his name. I wonder whether the couple who adopted him were related

It is interestig Kay I did think of john hutchinson having a brother after checking some of the hutchinsons. and found he did have a brother william but then couldnt find any marrage for him.

my GG/Grandfather was born Jacob Henderson 1853 hull east yorkshire.
his mother was mary ann henderson 1827 hope,yorkshire and his dad was I think Thomas Henderson 1827 Dalton yorkscant find anything for Thomas either before or after 1851.can you help?

Have you found Mary Ann and Jacob in 1861 and is Jacob's father from his birth cert?

no Kay only 1851, which was Mary Ann1827,Thomas 1827, then 1871 found Mary Ann 44, jacob 19 esther 15 john W 9, but no thomas.

I think this is the same family in 1851 and 1861 but no Jacob. Kirby Hill/Dalton are next door - I have a relative born there. I supose Jos could be Jacob but not born in Hull

Ah - just seen your reply and Spoatley is just outside Hull so it looks like the right family in 1861 when compared with the 1871 detials

was thomas still with the family in 1871 and would it help to look in 1841 for his parents

I can't see him in 1871 but have to go to cook tea now - will check tommorow - there are alternatives in 1841 but not with his parents. I did find the below on the IGI which could be useful and the 1901 Census
