Hi,
there is a record on CWGC site for a David McDonald who was with bomb disposal.....would this be your David?

Aileen

Aileen Report 28 Feb 2010 17:35

Unfortunately it is not possible to view his death cert on-line at Scotland'sPeople unsure how much information it would give anyway. Also it is not possible to view his birth cert as it is after 1909 so the "100 yr rule" applies......you could order his birth cert if you know his date and place of birth.....it would cost £10 from Scotland'sPeople......you do not need a subscription as this site is Pay-for- View

Thank you both,
It is the same Aileen i have given his son that info. As his son was only mths old when his father died and his mother remarried he has no idea of his fathers date of birth so ordering a cert would be very hit and miss

there are 7 David McDonalds born between 1918-1919 in Glasgow city
do you know if he has a middle name?
Do you or David's son live in Scotland?

Julie

Julie Report 1 Mar 2010 15:30

Hi Aileen

As far as his son knows he didnt have a middle name, he died in 1940 age 21 ( he was shot in an accident in barracks in london ) so that puts him born 1919.Unfortunateley neither of us live n scotland and i only have a sub to english records on ancestry.

Hi

Could this be his death?

David McDonald

You could always send for it, not sure if it would help much though?

When did his parents marry?
The marriage cert ,if in Scotland, would give both of his parents names including mothers maiden name.
If in England only the fathers name and occupation.

There is a person on here that can look these things up in Scotland, if you can give some details I will search for the refs and ask him if he would kindly help ?

I think you can write to the ministry of defence and ask for some of his details as they hold the records for WW2 soldiers, if they don't have them I am sure they would be able to point you in the right direction.

They would have them Sally, but his death cert will be needed and a £30 cheque and up to a 6 month wait for them to be sent out unfortunatley.

I will return with the address.

Go here to get details and follow the link from it.

Much cheaper and quicker to go through the person who works in the place in Scotland and will very often search and lookup these things for people.

I have access to all Scottish BDM's. Do you happen to have his birthday i.e. day and month even if not the year as there are many McDonalds and I need to narrow down the search a wee bit. Was he married to Margaret in Scotland? Was his son born in Scotland? Parents first names at all. I can look at every David McDonald born that year or thereabouts but need just a couple of extra details to confirm it's the right one.
