My father was William Edward McKevitt. He was a butcher and the youngest of eight children born in Liverpool to (as I understand) a Catholic stone mason who worked on the construction of Liverpool Anglican Cathedral. I never knew my paternal grandparents. His eldest sisters were Maggie and Lizzie. There was also an Alice. The eldest was George who went to live in Canada after serving with the Canadian army. Perhaps half of this is my imagination. It was all a long time ago! I had my 65th birthday last Friday. The only visit I have made to Ireland felt amazingly like going home, so maybe that is where my roots really are. |
