A couple of things... Firstly, I've found a book in the library explaining the origin of surnames....apparently, Messeter derives from the word masheter - meaning to mash the hops during the process of beer-making. Secondly, after having researched our family tree a few years back, we discovered that back in the 1800's, there were Messeters settled near Calne, Wiltshire, working as farmers. Thirdly (just remembered something else!!) you might be interested to know that Messeter is also the name of a muscle of the jaw!! Well that certainly explains my fondness for a good old chinwag!!!
