I am looking for a death cert of William Morgan who I know was in Ayrshire 1901 cencus but I cannot find his death cert in scot. I am wondering if he went back to Ireland and died there. His dob was 1841 and he was born in Ireland . Ancesty says his death was 1904 but not so sure as I cant find death cert.anywhere. Could someone please see if they can find it in Ireland. I believe his middle name was John and he was married to Margaret Quinn.

Thanks in advance

The GRO(I) index thru 1958 (excl N. Ireland post-partition) is available at:

One can purchase certs (or cheaper still, the uncertified images of the rego) via:

The Irish 1901/1911 censuses are free at:

[Not heard of any release dates for next census (=1926 in both Irelands)]

Most City of Dublin parish registers are free online at:

Thank you very much for these links that I was not aware of, hopefully they will be of great use to me.

I did have a look at the family search link ( the first one ) but I am not sure if I am missing something as it didnt seem to show deaths in Ireland as late as 1901 or am I just getting it wrong.?

The problem is I am not sure where he died scotland or Ireland although ancestry says 1904 ayrshire, scotland but this is all I can see and still cant get a cert.

I appreciate your help
Many thanks

The 1904 deaths on Ancestry are all in family trees and none have a source.

There is a death in Kilwinning in 1908, with a DOB of 1826 - perhaps a bit old to be your Morgan but might be worth looking at.

AS i see Margaret died in the 1890's in Kilwinning ,i should think she was buried in Kilwinning. So i think William would have been buried in the same plot.

Thanks everyone for all your help you have all been so kind. I have the date of Margaret Quinns death as 1895 but it didnt occur to me to that they may have been buried in the same place, so thanks for that. As she died at only 52 I wondered if william returned to Ireland and that was how I couldnt find a death cert in Scotland.

Someone also mentioned that his middle name John may have been used and I have tried this to and still no luck.

Please, if there is anymore info I will be most grateful.

Thank you

I would be checking out the address on Margaret's Death Cert.and see if it corresponds with the Wm Morgan Kilwinning " 1914" Leven Cottage that Ellen has posted.

I will need to try and get Margarets death cert but I have just looked on Scotlands people and I cant see it there. I must be doing something wrong as I have her dod 1895 and I know it was a tragic accident. I also believe she stayed at Byrehill Rd Kilwinning ayrshire at the time of her death.

How come I am unable to get this on Scotlands People, am I doing it wrong ?

As you said Summer ,he's in the 1901 Census in Kilwinning. As his Children were all over in Scotland, can't see any reason for him to go back to Ireland.Sorry i have no units left in Scotlandspeople at the moment. 7 William Morgans came up.He could have died in Kilmarnock,Irvine ,Kilwinning, don't just go for Kilwinning ones.

Well I am totally stumped I have just managed to get Margarets death cert on Scotlands people which is correct as you say 1895. There is nothing for a william death to be found anywhere.

I also got his sons Samuels marriage and on it says under name of father and mother William Morgan and Helen morgan .. Quinn ( desceased)
This is a bit puzzling as I am wondering if Helen is his first wife (marageret quinn) sister as that was her maiden name also.

However i cannot see a marriage of helen and william on Scot people either. Has anyone got any ideas please.

Also margaret died in Kilwinning so how would I go about finding what cemetry she would be in ? Perhaps as you say william will be in the same plot.

Ps I did check different districts in Ayrshire when I did the searches.
Thanks all
