I have come to a complete stand still my ggrandfather was John Muirhead who married Jessie McLaren on 16.02.1916 according to their marriage extract his parents were John Muirhead and Jane Newell. I can find no marriage details for them in Scotland, I know through family history they had many children which included 2 sets of twins and a set of triplets, I have no idea of their ages, can't yet trace a birth certificate for my ggrandfather John, he was noted on his marriage extract as 36, 6 years older than his wife when we thought he was 11 years older! If I could find the marriage details for John and Jane think I might be able to get moving again. Haven't been able to pinpoint a census as I don't know ages or areas!

I have found a marriage for 1871 Glasgow for John Muirhead and Jeannie Steven Yuill. I wonder if there is a mistake on John jnr's marriage record. Yuill not Newall

I checked the birth for Muriel and Ethel mentioned in the 1891 census and mothers name is given as Jeannie Yuill. Also on birth record was Samuel all born 31/01/1888...so there are the triplets although it doesn't look as though Samuel survived

Thank you so much this appears to be the correct family, it doesn't surprise me if the name Newall was incorrect as they had John jnr as 36, his wife 30 and I confirmed with my mum that he was definately much older than his wife, we assumed he was born 1880, however going by the age difference between him and his wife we assumed he was born 1873/74.

We managed to work out that some of the children were Isa & Muriel and my mum remembered Muriel was one of the triplets, although we always thought there were 2 sets of twins, my mum confirmed there were 13 children!

This give me loads to get on with.

It was John seniors occupation that put me on the track and lots of previous experience of things not always being as they first seem.
I think there were a lot more than 13 children born to John and Jeannie.
I still have info regarding their parents...from the marriage cert which you may find useful

John was the son of John (Shoemaker) and Christina ms Shillinglaw and
Jane was the daughter of William (Pawnbroker) and Christina ms Clark

I'm at work so I will digest it properly later, what I noticed was the 2 John's which suggests that the first John didn't survive, it looks like he may have been the twin of William, perhpas there were only 13 who survived?

Thanks again for all your information, managed to find out loads from what you have given me, first boys John & William were twins born 2 months after their parents marriage, born in Rothesay probably sent away in shame, both died William after 6 hours and John after 11 days, you have got me going again.

Have found loads of information and now have the birth certificates for most of the Muirhead children, (parents John Muirhead and Jeanie Yuill), I am missing one, found the entry on scotlandspeople but when I entered the birth extract it was a different record, can anyone help.

I am looking for Alexander Muirhead born 1882 in Glasgow?

I am also wondering if there were more children as there appears to be quite a gap before the triplets were born and we are sure there were 2 sets of twins + the triplets in this family and only have one set + the triplets;

Felt the gap unusual given they were having children most years then no children in 1885, 1886 or 1887 before falling pregnant April 1887 with triplets! Maybe he was out of the country lol

If there were any children between 1884 and 1887 they don't show up on 1891 census so would have had to have died prior to this
