The name was spelled 'Nunes de Souza' and 'Nunes De Souza'. I am interested in people with this name, or their ancestors had this name or people who know about this family from Guyana, South America. The legend I know is that there was one family with this surname because there was only one Nunes de Souza who emigrated to British Guiana in the 1800s with his wife and two sons and settled in Mahaica, East Coast Demerara. All Nunes de Souzas from Guyana descended from the two sons. I am not clear whether they originated from Funchal or from the main land of Portugal. I welcome additional information.
