thanks for your help on finding fanny but now have a new problem her father thomas was born in ireland which sites do i need to use for a birth record also is there any way to find out what reriment he was in thnaks

Fannys little sister Mary born in Colchester,her birth cert should have his army details on it.

Thomas was born pre registration and Irish records are pretty hard to find,so I cant help there.
Unless he is on "familysearch"I dont think you will have much luck.

Or you could search for his marriage on

Which will give you his fathers name and occupation,,hopefully.

Sorry not a clue on that ,Im pretty rubbish when it comes to the Army,even gave up on my own G G Grandfather born 1844 Ireland and in The Queens Dragoon Guards. .

Edit,,the disability that shows against his occupation does not mean he is disabled .its just how the census are worded.
That census is free to look at on "familysearch"

thanks again for all your help viv found his marriage to aan elizabeth hunt sep 1948 aston 16 312 so i am going to order that cert and i am going to get marys which hopefully will tell me what reg he was in thanks again james

A word of caution ,I would get Marys cert first so you can be 100% certain of Fannys mothers maiden name before ordering the marriage cert.

I might be able to look at son William's birth certificate here in Jersey (free to look). It should give Mothers maiden name and might say which regiment Thomas was in.
