I understood that our version of the name Osman came from an old Dorset word for a river pilot. You can easily imagine "oarsman" quickly turning into Osman... And the family came from Wimborne Minster in Dorset. Have managed to track down most of the clan, except for our mystery Harry Osman, born in Wimborne? in the early 1900s? Apparently he went to Watford, and I've not been able to find anything about him.
