Find Ancestors

My great uncle was Percy James Pearce and everyone knew he was married to Amy Sage.

I looked up the marriage in the records and Percy Pearce was married in 1920 to Amy Hembley in Hemel Hempstead Hertfordshire.

Could she have been married before - maybe a war widow? Any ideas on how to find out without sending for the certificate?

I can not find a marriage between an Amy Sage & a Mr Hembley.

You would have to send for the birth certificate of one of their children to see what mathers name is listed as.

If you do decide to buy a certificate, do so before the 6th April as the price is going up

I believe they had two children, Sylvia and Lionel, so will try to find them in the records. Thanks for letting me know about the price going up of certificates - wouldn't it be nice if the price of something went down sometimes!!

Can not find Sylvia or Lionel, Pearce - Sage births 1920 - 1940

This was the closest for Hembley... but no Sylvia

I think that could be Lionel's birth but haven't found Sylvia either. It could have been her second name I suppose - I'm relying on stories from my mother and her family and memory of what they said.

I found a Sylvia who came to Australia in the 1950's as a nurse who could have been her. Nobody seems to have her in the Ancestry trees either.

Many thanks for all the info. Now I know why I couldn't find Sylvia. As Amy seems to be definately a Hembley (Hambley, Hemley, Hemsby!) I wonder why the relatives seemed to think she was a Sage?

Perhaps I'll be able to find a descendent in a Genes Reunited tree who can shed light on it!
