I understand that Power originated as a Norman name - Le Poer, and the 12th century invasion of Ireland established them in Wicklow and Waterford (where it is still an extremely common name.) 'We' still maintain Gurraghmore House there. William Grattan Tyrone Power of Waterford was a leading Irish actor on the English stage, and his great Grandson was the film star Tyrone Power. |
