Trying to find Sadler

I am trying to find any information on James Sadler who was my paternal great grandfather. I now know he was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire but at a young age went into the army. He married had eight children six boys two girls. Their names were as follows, George, William,Harry (died at a young age), Anne (who died at 10 months old Frederick, Arthur Reuben (my paternal grandfather) Ethel and James. He then served in Gibraltar and then India which is why I think I cannot trace him on the 1901 census as he was out there at that time. After returning he then went to live in Crosshaven, Southern Ireland. I know that most of his children when adults left Ireland and some settled in Reading, Portsmouth and the Dorset area. Any help would be great. I have recently heard that one of my great grandfathers brothers was mayor of Brighton not sure of dates though possibly late 1800's or early 1900's.
