does any of this fit your tree? JOHN SCOTNEY AND ANN MILLEY They lived in the village of Bulwick / Deene in Northamptonshire. They had at least four children James, Thomas, William and Elizabeth. Elizabeth was born in 1827 and is the line I am going to Follow. Elizabeth worked in nearby Laxton Hall, She had an illegitimate son in 1851, she named him John. Strong rumour was that John was the son of the Lord of Laxton Hall. Possibly Lord Carbery 7th (George percy Evans Freke) This could be true, because he was very well educated and later had his own business. He talked openly about going to visit his father at Laxton Hall when he was a child. Elizabeth went on to marry a Valentine Long, and had other children, George, Charles, Elizabeth, Henrietta, and William. John Scotney Born 24 / 9 / 1851 Married Eliza born 26 / 10 /1875 They had 10 children Eliza Emma 2/6/1873 Henrietta 26/5/1875 John William 1/4/1878 Charles Henry 26/12/1879 Elizabeth Ann 16/8/1882 Ethel 30/10/1884 Ann 22/9/1886 Harriatt Emma 23/9/1888 Horace 5/9/1890 Florence 2/12/1894 This family lived in Deene Village in a cottage next to the school. Eliza ran the post Office and the village shop. John was a gardener at Deene Hall. John was a member of the church choir and Lexton of the church. They are buried in the church grounds. John died sept 25th 1917 and Eliza died Jan 30th 1933. Eliza Emma married and lived in Stamford. She was known as Lyza. She died young from Heart problems. Henrietta known as Retta died May 6th 1947. She married Edwin Joseph Tyler (Ted) they lived in the village Ted was the village Blacksmith. They had two children Raymond (who worked with his father) and Ethel Scotney, ( Scotney was her middle name) she was a nurse. Retta and Ted are buried next to John and Eliza in St Peters church yard in the village. John William Known by both Jack and Billy, he went to Yorkshire where he married. They had no childfren so they adopted a girl named Hilda. Hilda died in her teens from T.B. her mother also had T.B. and died. Billy (John) then returned to Deene and had two stokes. He went to live with his sister in Weldon (Florence). He died and was buried there. Elizabeth Ann (Lizzie) Married Albert Jones. They had two children , they ran a pub in Uffington near Stamford. Lizzie had throat cancer, she was still quite young when she died. Ethel Never married she was a nurse. After her fathers death she returned to Deene to help her mother run the village store and to help care for her nephew Frank Tansey (think that’s how you spell it?) She died suddenly from a heart attack when she was 65, 17th Aug 1950. she was buried next to her sister Henrietta. Ann Known as Annie or Nan, she married John Tansey they had a boy Frank, When Frank was a year old She died of T.B. 21st July 1924. Frank then went to live in Deene village with His grandmother and Auntie Ethel. Incidentally Frank had a Hare – Lip. Harriatt Emma Known as Emma. Little is known of Emma but she did Marry, she had red hair and was hard of hearing. Horace Never married he died June 22nd 1917 age 27. He was killed in action during the 1st world war. The shock of his death hastened his fathers death, John died 3 months later. Horace is mentioned on his parents grave stone. A brass plaque in St Peters Church Deene bears his name. Florence Married a Mr Currall, they lived in a cottage in Deene next door to the Bakery. They had two children Murial and Arthur. Florence lived to old age and died of a heart attack. Charles Henry ( MY great Grandfather) Known as Harry, he was the only child to carry on the name SCOTNEY. He moved to Yorkshire and worked at Bolton Hall as a gardener. Eventually he moved to Cheshire and became head Gardener at Little Morton Hall. He met his wife there Fanny Bailey, they had two children John William (Billy) and Charles Henry (Harry) they later moved to Rainhill near Liverpool. For many years they ran a small corner shop in Rainhill village. Harry became extremely Deaf and they gave the business up and went to live in stocks lane Penketh near Warrington. Harry once more returned to his old job and was gardener at Thornton Hall Penketh. After his retirement he returned to Rainhill where he died on April 21st 1956. Fanny lived many years AFTER Harry’s death she died in Dec 1980. They were both buried in Rainhill Church graveyard. Billy their son born 1907 lived all his life in Rainhill, he worked in the coal Mines, he married Queenie and they had 3 daughter, Irene, Thelma and Pamela. Both Billy and Queenie died of Cancer. As they had no sons they couldn’t carry on the Scotney name. Charles Henry (Harry) ( MY Grandfather) born 1910 Married Vera Robinson 1914
