Trying to find Selwood

I'm looking for information about my maternal GGGrandfather and his family. His son was born Frederick George Selwood, in 1866 in Lucknow, India. I know, though his marriage certificate to Amy Willis in 1896, that my GGGF was also called Frederick George Selwood, but I have no idea of a DOB, place of birth or his mother's name/maiden name. My GGGF was dead at the time of his sons marriage in 1896, but I don't know the date of his death. HisMy GGGF's profession at the time of the marriage was listed as soldier. My mother remembers he was a brass musician (possibly trumpet or trombone) and seem to remember this was in the Cold Stream Guards. The only reference I've found in the census to the Selwoods is the son FG Selwood listed as a ropemaker in the 1901 census and living in Lincolnshire I have tried checking the British Army records for regiments serving in India in 1866 at Lucknow, and there are many regiments listed. The information is not complete and as my GGGF did not appear to be an officer or win any medals, the information about the lower ranks is incomplete and sketchy. If this information rings a bell with anyone, I'd be very grateful if you got in touch...my mother would be absolutely delighted if I could give her some more information about her family history. Thank you for reading! Best wishes Liselle |
