hi ray, would you put your replies here in the thread instead of sending private messages ?
that is easier for all concerned and it means everyone can see the information
just use the 'add your reply' box down at the bottom
I think this isn't sensitive information since I had already deduced it :-)
Hi, yes it was abigamous marriage he stated he was a widower. when Alice died in 1915 he married Laura again this time legaly. cheers Ray
is it Joseph's death you are wanting to find as you seem to have all other info about him ?
...... or maybe you were just updating your thread with the information you had found and we all decided to start researching it !
looks like his death
Name: Joseph Sexton Birth Date: abt 1887 Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1957 Age at Death: 70 Registration district: Coventry Inferred County: Warwickshire Volume: 9c Page: 902
have you traced son Thomas 1913 or would you want help with that part ?
Births Mar 1913 Sexton Thomas Spence Coventry 6d 1391
Name: Thomas Sydney Sexton Birth Date: 9 Jul 1913 Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1971 Age at Death: 57 Registration district: Coventry Inferred County: Warwickshire Volume: 9c Page: 2260
also
Name: Sydney Thomas Sexton Birth Date: 9 Jul 1913 Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1971 Age at Death: 57 Registration district: Coventry Inferred County: Warwickshire Volume: 9c Page: 2260
interestingly there was a Sydney T Sexton birth registered very close to the same time and place
Births Sep 1913 SEXTON SYDNEY T WINSLEY Foleshill 6d 1388
so that death must be that Sydney and not your Thomas
there is no marriage for a Sydney T Sexton but a Thomas S Sexton married in Coventry in 1935, probably that one
I wonder what happened to Thomas ?

SEXTON Thomas 1914 M 1921 Liverpool USA New York SEXTON Thomas 1913 M 1929 Belfast Canada Quebec SEXTON Thomas 1912 M 1959 Greenock Canada Montreal
also travelling with in 1921 so rule that one out
SEXTON Alice 1889 F 1921 Liverpool USA New York SEXTON James 1894 M 1921 Liverpool USA New York SEXTON Robt Jones 1911 M 1921 Liverpool USA New York
no one named Sexton was travelling with in 1929 or 1959
could Thomas have gone to Canada ? possibly at a young age ( 1916 ) and then returned for a visit ?
I don't have findmypast access to see the details

1911 ?
SEXTON ALICE 1863 48 Newhaven Sussex
living with her are
SEXTON JOHN 1898 13 Newhaven Sussex HOUSEHOLD SEXTON WILLIAM 1903 8 Newhaven Sussex
again I can't see the details
I had confused myself because both Joseph Sr and Joseph Jr married an Alice
it was Alice Sr who died in 1915 after Joseph Sr had bigamously married Laura and that looks like Alice Sr in the 1911 census in Newhaven
here is John Sexton in 1901 who is in the 1911 census
Name: John Sexton Age: 3 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1898 Relation: Boarder Gender: Male Where born: Newhaven, Sussex, England Civil parish: Newhaven
William Sewrrell 81 ... I think it says Scurrell ... naval pensioner widower >>> Alice Sexton 38 housekeeper married born in Ringmer Rose Sexton 11 all children born in Newhaven Violet Sexton 7 John Sexton 3 Albert Sexton 6 Months John Bishop 32
so Joseph Sr and Alice Sr had several more children in fact ?? no ... those children were Alice Sr's but not Joseph Sr's I would think
I think I understand that Joseph Sr and Laura are your ancestors so Alice Sr's other children would not be your relations if so
......... and I see you have Violet in your tree so this is all known to you

Thank you folks, yes joseph snr was married 1892 to Laura Taylor, their m cert states he was a widower, fib! so he had his 2nd life with her in CVoventry. meanwhile in Newhaven Alice went from poor house with Rosie, to housekeeper by 1911. she had a number of children with john Bishop shown as lodger. s 1915 she died, so it would seem that Joseph snr made itm legal xmas that year I now have both m certs. joseph jnr was there with 2nd wife he d 1957 in coventry. have now found out none of this was a secret from their children and my father (deceased 1972) must have known as he and brothers went to coventry before and after the war my grand father Frank was their with them 1911 census so it was only my generation who knew nothing.
thanks to all that have chipped in. Ray
