hi cant seem to find any history on the shields family from kirkintiloch most were miners catholics john and annie had 8 sons 1 daughter and adopted son from next door after mother died.these i know . but proir to 1900 i cant find any family named shields in kirkintiloch any help would be great bridie

sos glitter baby all i know is john shields was my granddad married to annie he must of been born around 1885 had x amount of sons charlie danny johnny hughie patrick martin james ( my father) and joseph still alive and living in kirkintilloch and mary the only daughter alive in aussie rumour always had it that there was a mary kelly from ireland in the family and my father was a miner any more info would be great

So could John born 1885, with mother Mary, be the right one.

It would be useful if you got the marriage cert then it would give more details to help with this.

Where someone married, and then lived, is not really a good pointer as to where they were born.

but i got a query both are suppose to be 1901 censor yet bernard is 5yrs old born 1886 in the next 1901 censor bernard is 15yrs old are they different censors or is it a mistake it also seems john shields is 10 yrs older. is it usual to not have the father s name showing im intrigued and will buy credids to dig some more
