Looking for info on WILLIAM ROBERT SMITH (b1872, Lower Shillingford nr Exeter, Devon) who married Fanny James (b1859, Crediton, Devon) on 8 Feb 1891 in Paddington, London. He had three children with Fanny, then left the family for Australia about 1908. In the 1901 census of England, he is described as a salesman. It is thought he worked on/helped build the Maxim Flying Machine displayed at the Crystal Palace at the turn of the century. Whether or not he made it to Australia is unknown. There was supposedly an add in a London newspaper about 1948 asking the family to contact a solicitor, but no one ever did. |
