Find Ancestors

Would some kind soul please help me to read the writing on an image I have downloaded from Scotlands People.

I have the marriage of Francis Charter/Charteris to Agnes Stoba in 1865. Unfortunately it's not clear enough for me to make out their mothers names or the place of marriage.

I read Francis's parents as William and Jane nee ??? deceased and Agnes's as Robert and Agnes nee Cumming? but I cannot find a marriage for either set of parents.

Looks like Cumming.
Mumsey or Mussey or Massey for Agnes.

Encourage others to have a look because there are extra squiggles.

I searched marriages on familysearch.org using the bridge and grooms fathers names hoping to find their mothers maiden names but without success, nothing seemed to look anything like.

One other member has also PM'd me.

I would say it is massey for Agnes.....at first I thought the other was Cummings.....but very difficult to make out.

The place is Crocketford Urr.........am just going to take another look

I had that problem once and I sent a message to Scotlands people ('contact us' is on the site). I received a reply saying that they were sorry and would try re scanning it. Within 1 or 2 days they sent me a great copy that I could read.

Well, firstly, On the cert, Agnes's mother does look like Agnes Cummings, however - here she is
with her maternal grandparents on 1861 census:

Now, the Transcriptions on Ancestry are notoriously bad, especially the Scottish ones.

However, the name appears as Charters, not Charteris on 1841 and 1851, and, although
Francis's mother's name does appear to be Jane on the cert, it is shown on both census's
as Jean ??? - Maybe you could find a marrage under that name?

It is also 'possible' from the cert that her name 'may' be Murray ??

Thank you for your reply.

I have just checked the IGI and although they are submitted records it appears William Charter/Charteris married Jean McMurray on 27th August 1831. Now I have something date wise I can check on Scotlands People.

Thanks for the census input. When I get chance later I will take a better look and see what I can find.

William Charteris married Jean McMurray (that's the spelling for the marriage) on 27th August 1831. Unfortunately I cannot make it all out but it does mention Jeans brother George presenting his sister.

I couldn't find the record earlier as I had entered Jane McMurry for the bride.

A reletive of mine is researching her husbands Charteris / Charters lines and these names are the same.
