For all you SWORD,s out there you are in good company our name as many spellings but be assured they are the same name whether it be spelt SOURD, SWERDE, SUORD, SUERD, or the most famous of them all SIWARD you are amongst them . In Shakespear,s Macbeth in 1054 it was young Siward who said to Macbeth "Thou liest abhorred tyrant: with my sword I'll prove the lie thou speak'st " this was in fact his last words for Macbeth slew him , never mind we cant win all the time. Siward the elder however finished the story for it was his man Macduff who slew Macbeth. other Sword names mentioned in history are John Swerd who was granted safe conduct to England in 1398 and may also have been John Swerde master of the ship Archambaud. Alexander Suerd 1536 burgess of Linlithgow. Christopher Sword 1628 Stirling Patrick Sword 1631 Treasurer of Stirling. these and others are our names in history. At present the main locations within the British Isles for the name of Sword are Scotland most areas Sunderland and Newcastle, Norwich, and Ireland mainly west although also Dublin . Finally though it most probably is the case that there are now more Swords in America than anywhere due to migration from the British Isles . All the best Jim Sword (Birmingham).
