I cannot find any information about my granddad Dick Tester. He married a Annie Holt and served in the navy during ww1. His stepfather was called Baldwin and they lived in the Northfleet area of Kent. Any information greatly appreciated |

Sorry theres not really enough info to go on You need to telll us roughly when he was born Dick would have been Richard His strepfather must have a first name. If he served in the war he would have a service number and a war record . If you srart with the marriage of Anne and Richard a little before your father was born that is a good place to start as a marriage cert will give ages parents and other details. |

Thanks for quick reply. I am a complete novice at this so will try to find the marriage certificate which may perhaps give me some more info but I cannot find any birth record. Apparently his name was Dick (which I would have thought would have been easy to find) |

Thanks for quick reply. As you can probably tell I am a complete novice at this. Apparently his name was Dick and not Richard and he may have been born in the Faversham area of Kent. Unfortunately I have no info on his stepfathers surname. I believe he served on the Ark Royal during ww1 and I think he was young. I just keep hitting a blank wall on his birth entry. I will try to access some records for the marriage which I believe took place in June 1921 in the Strood District |

well I guess you need to but that marriage cert first, that will give you parent detail etc and as for war record I guess the Ark Royal is fairly simple although I think you have to go in person to view them. There is no birth reg I can see for him so maybe he was registered under a different one since legal adoption was not enforced he may have adopted his step fathers surname |
