Member Since: January 2008 Posts: 55 Send Message	Hi, I am hoping some kind soul might point me in the right direction, or even suggest where I might go with the info I have already.... I am trying to help my friend Sharon Mahoney find her father whose name is Alex White, sadly the information we have is VERY sketchy and very little is known, this is what she knows and has given me to work on.... Alex White, birthplace unknown, would be aged approx 64-72 now, lived in North East or East London around 1963-1965. He was a merchant seaman. His mother was half Spanish. During the 60's he lived on either Canterbury Road or Coventry Road. Sharon's mother was Irish and moved to London to work late 50's early 60's. Sharon has never known or met her father and is now 42 and would love to either get in touch or have some idea of where he might be now. I have had a look at some BDM records but each time I come up with the problem of names...was he named Alex or Alexander, or could Alex be Alec? She has no idea what his mothers or fathers names were, or where they were from either. Can anyone help me in anyway? Is there a merchant seamans listing I could maybe check? Any suggestions would be VERY welcome!! Regards Michelle

	Michelle It sounds as though your friend has the short version of her birth certificate. She could apply for the long version which would give all the information, including her father's name if he had been willing to be registered, or if he had married her mother. You could find her birth registration information on the Complete Index to bmds, which is available on ancestry.co.uk. The certificate will cost £7 from www.gro.gov.uk sylvia

When I searched under White, my heart sank as I thought your thread was someone who was related to her Dad. Lets hope with both of us looking we may find him!. 	Debbie, Did your sister Sharon ever buy her FULL birth certificate ? Also has she found her BIRTH mum who, of course, will have more data.
