Hi Elizabeth, Kay

Thanks for your info - slip of my finger putting 1830 instead of 1832!! I have the christenings - there's another Robert born in 1844. I think thats the lot!

I will try the Hampshire Family History Society - thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Gwyn

I can't find any record of Robert or Harriet in the 1851 census and I think they died in 1853 and 1856 respectively. I've found two of the older children living away from home but no record of the the younger ones. They're in the 1841 census but that only gives Harriet's birthplace as being in Hampshire. Aargggh!

Holly,
Where was Robert born-do you have him on a census?
Might be able to work out who his parents were if he had siblings born after him

I expect you noticed the marriage was in 1832(not 1830)

I have the Hampshire Baptism Index 1813-1841.

Do you have these baptisms for Robert and Harriet's children at Buriton?
11 Aug 1833-Laura
23 Aug 1835-William
02 Jul 1837-James
06 Jan 1839-Alfred
03 Jan 1841-Brownlow
(possibly more!)

Bet

The witness names might help link him to a particular family.

They are likely to have married in Harriet's home parish, which may or may not have been where either of them were born.
What is given as their birthplace in 1851?

Did either of the couple re marry at a later date, ie. after 1837?
I was able to find the father of one of my JONES girls that way, from a 2nd marriage certificate.

I would also try and find siblings... IE other child of the same surname, same era of birth and location... you might get lucky and by spanning out find his parents that way.

Holly

Holly Report 8 Apr 2008 15:05

Oh, ok. I didn't realise that the information wouldn't be available from that time. The IGI lists quite a few from the same area so I'm not sure that I'll be able to find the right one.

Thanks for your help anyway!

Kay???? Report 8 Apr 2008 15:03

Holly.

There probally wont be any parents names from that time ,just the marriage entry..........you may get lucky and often a grooms father name ,ie son of---only wealthy or titled families were given privledge of having a full entry done in England,,,,,,

you may need PR to try for their bapt....vicars often wouldnt marry couples in a church unless they had been baptized there,or were a memebr of the congregation at least,,,,,,

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 8 Apr 2008 14:59

The parish record will not give you his father!

You maybe able to find his birth by on the IGI the same as if you were at the parish records.

The marriage records only really started using full details after 1837. You might be lucky, but it is a very long shot.

The chances are from 1830's he may well ahve been born into the town/villag he married in... and even possibly the same church.

Hi,

I'm after the parents names. I've found quite a bit of information about the Locke's in the Buriton area but I can't link Robert to his father without the parish record.

ROBERT LOCK

Marriages:
Spouse: HARRIET WHITE Family
Marriage: 11 JUN 1832 Chalton, Hampshire, England

What information are you actually after Holly?

From 1832, the only other data the actual record will give you is the place both parties came from, and if you are lucky the witness's

Is this the additional data you are looking for?

Holly

Holly Report 8 Apr 2008 14:44

Hi

Could someone help me out with a record from Hampshire Records Office? I'm looking for information on the marriage of Robert Locke to Harriet White in Chalton Parish Church on 11/6/1830. If you can help, please get in touch.

Thanks, Holly
