ok. I may have a little puzzle to work out. Joseph Nolan was born on 10/05/1924 he was my husbands father. The only information I have on him comes from his 76 year old wife. Should just be a simple birth search, but NOT.
Can I find him, not a bloomin chance, unless I have missed him.
May (His wife) said that Joe was born in Salford, Manchester, and his parents were Peter Nolan and Emma Wolsencroft. We have no more info on his parents at all.
I asked May if there was any chance at all that Joe had been adopted or his mother re-married etc, the usual things but she said not that she knows off.

Can someone please do a double check on the births and see if I may have missed something.
Thank you

So does that mean that Peter Nolan was married previously to someone called boardman? Interesting. Thank you Reggie for the extra information. That proves there was a marriage at least to work on. Im still puzzled, where does boardman come into it.......

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 9 Apr 2008 16:26

It does mean however that your husbands father *may* have had a mother contrary to whom he thought it was?....

...assuming that's him

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 9 Apr 2008 16:31

It may mean that Emma had been married previously.........

If her maiden name was Boardman, that would appear on the birth index, but she would re-marry under her first married name............

Interesting....If he indeed did have another mother, what on earth happened. I would dearly love to know, but if the family never knew, there is no one to ask.....

looking at the dates, she was in a race to get married.
Emma Boardman married Wolstencroft 2nd quarter in 1817 but then marries Peter Nolan in the 4th quarter in 1918. mmm still a mystery, and what was the hurry....

Oh Reggie, that would be a crying shame, if she married in the spring and then lost her husband....

so would that be two possible sisters then? I think I am going to have to phone my mother in law again, I knew about Peter Nolan, she never mentioned anything about sisters...mmmmm Its like opening a can of worms, you are never sure about what your getting into to.......

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 9 Apr 2008 17:02

Well...

I only threw in those children in case Mr Wolstencroft didn't die in 1917(and the one found is purely co-incidence), however Peter Nolan born in 1921 and Irene Wolstencroft born in 1922 cannot be siblings.

I was just trying to prove there was a Boardman/Wolstencroft marriage in Salford at that time, and therefore the marriage Reg found may not be relevant.

Just chucking it all in the pot.

Debbie

The only sure way to proceed is to order the cert for the birth Keith found........using all the info you are SURE of as checking points......his parents' forenames would be ideal.....don't include mother's surname........

If it's the right one, they'll send it, and you can then find out exactly what the situation was..........if Emma had been married previously, it should be on the cert........

Ok just come off the phone to my Mother in Law. She has indeed confirmed that Emma was married twice, and there was the three children between the two marriages. Joseph, peter and half sister mary. It has taken a lot of prompting, because she knew little of her husbands family, they were not very close, So Thank you very much for all of your help, I have managed to add the information to my tree.
