Thanks Iwan.
I have the 1901 census. I added the correction on Ancestry for that one. George was my great Uncle. James on that entry was my grandfather(he was only 4 at the time not 14).

I think they're going to remain "lost".
Its driving me mad because they must be there somewhere.

Thanks for that Iwan.
I think that he is another cousin. The elder Williams brother had a son named John in 1870.
Thanh you

He married Alice Middleton. This is where it gets even more confusing.
When I searched her address there was no Alice Middleton aged 18 living there, There was however an Alice Hodgeson aged 18 living there.
I think it is her but obviously I've got a lot of checking to do. Her Father was dead at the time of her marriage(1876 is a possible) & I think she was given her step fathers surname in the census.

Who did he marry. Perhaps they are living near each other?

Yes thanks Reggie I have that one. He's the only family member I can find in 1891.

I'd love to know where all the family were. The younger William was my great grandfather.

He married in 1891. I got the marriage cert this week & I did an address search on findmypast but he isn't at the address from the cert either.

I'm just racking my brain for other names to search under or to think of some reason why they aren't showimg up.

Chrisa, you have just helped me find a family where the V was transcribed as a B. Have you tried that?

Jacky :-)

Wayne/Tracey you have helped me look before without any success. I didn't want to waste peoples time by asking for another look up. Thats why I thought I'd just ask for suggestions.

I find the best way to find different spellings of surnames or forenames is to go to the top of the page to "search trees" and type in the name you want, when it comes up look at the left hand side of the page and you will see Top Tips and surname/forename variants.

Could the L be mistranscribed as a C? dont forget would have been the 'old fashioned' way of doing an L, cant replicate it here but can look like a C!

chrisa Report 9 Apr 2008 17:02

Hi
Could you please gave me your suggestions.
My great grandfather & his parents are missing from 1891 census. I've had help on records before to try to find them.
What I'm trying to do know is searching names that they could have been mis transcribed under.

Does anyone have any ideas for names I could try please.
The name is Lovely

Thanks
