Find Ancestors

I'm trying to find the birth of a Edna, Lila, Gretrude Clifton birth & place unknown.

Parents were Ann Dobson born sydney 1888 died sydney 1960 married a Gus Clifton born ??? died 72yrs 1960 VIC

(I found a marriage1904 between ann dobson & a Edward Augustus Clifton with a daughter gretrude born 1905 NSW reg, I thought it could be him & Gus was his Nickname as he had another brother called edward A cilfton) but the lady who has him in her tree thinks he was to young to be the husband he would have been 15yrs. Alot of my family members were very young starters. anyway

As Gus died in Melbourne I was wondering if they might have married in melbourne & had the above mentioned Girls there??

I know they divorced & she married a Smith died 30/11/1960 (first name dates & place unknown)

Any Clues would be of great help. Thank You 4 taking the time to read my post... : )

Perhaps Gus lied about his age so as to get married

who knows my family just don't make sense sometimes none of them knew how to spell let alone there own age my mum said that her own mum couldn't remember when her birthday was she kept changing the date on her until she asked then even the birth cert was different & thats only going back to my own grandmother so I can imagine how wrong everything is, It's really a big guessing game....

I was wondering if anyone had access to VIC records I looked it up it says it has one Gertrude Clifton but i cant view it & I'm unable to get to any FHC's to do so.

I'm trying to see if there is any of the mentioned in VICTORIAN records

The Edward Augustus CLIFTON who was born in 1889 to Edward & Charlotte nee LAW died in 1943 in Redfern NSW so this is not your man. I believe he married in 1911 in NSW to Annie B STETTLER.

In any case if you know Gus had a brother named Edward it is highly unlikely Gus's real given name was also Edward!

I cannot find a death in Victoria in 1960 for Gus CLIFTON or any variant. Where did you get that info?

An Edgar Augustus CLIFTON died in NSW in 1977, son of John & Mary Anne (reg 21037).

I have checked Vic & NSW marriages for an Ann or Anne CLIFTON to a SMITH with no luck.

Do you have Ann nee DOBSON's death certificate?

NO I don't the information comes from a family folder & my grandmothers recollections & letters & Stuff, it has Gus Clifton as husband Ann b1888 nee Dobson & remarried a Smith,
wouldn't GUS have to be short for something ?

Through looking at the NSW REG that how I found a Edward Augustus Clifton Its the only one as your saw I traced that line & noticed that there was two brothers Edward A C one born 1884 the other few yrs later..

I know that they lived in Melbourne for some time as they lived next door to her niece's family Ann b1905 (nee Dobson) the Bennett's (daughter of Joseph b1883 Dobson. Ann b1888 Dobson's brother)

Lorna Bennett (daugh. Ann 1905) & Gertrude Clifton (daugh. Ann 1888) grew up next door to each other in Melbourne.

Cherilyn Thank You for Help I was able to get to the land titles office the other day found alot of property's the Dobson's owned around Sydney & Nsw since that day I've been unable to get out & about.

But in the NSW REG there is

9732/1904 CLIFTON EDWARD A DOBSON ANN PADDINGTON

They did separated so he could have remarried Settler after Ann Dobson?

7459/1911 CLIFTON EDWARD A STETTLER ANNIE B WATERLOO

information comes from a family history folders my dad put together (he spent alot of time at Kiama FHC & LDS church Albion Park NSW) & my grandmothers recollections could be wrong I have an exact date of death for Smith 30/11/1960 but don't know where, I know Gus died aged 72yrs young

I have the disks for the Victorian records and I cannot see the Clifton death on them

How do i I look up the vic census thingy.

That Gertrude Clifton was born to David Clifton and Elizabeth Hirdle in 1870, so is not the one you are looking for

The only Clifton born in Victoria between 1840 and 1920 with mother's maiden name Dobson was a Jane Clifton daughter of Henry Clifton and Mary Dobson born 1890

So she has to be the the daughter of Edward A Clifton & Ann Dobson Sydney NSW, There is no other records

I'd be very careful about relying on someone else's research and particularly as you don't have any certificates to back up your information. Exactly what information do you have about the 3 daughters? Do you have their married names?

All the Certs i've got are the right people with wrong parents being filled I have mother in laws as mothers of thier son in laws even my own birth cert is wrong it has my dad as a Dobson he is a Nette, I really can't trust Cert's.

I have had contact just last night with the Grandchild of Gertrude they grew up in Melbourne now live in sydney.

I only have the names of the daughters,
dates of death of Ann's Husbands all died 1960 even her,

I have her niece Ann Dobson married to Howard Bennett daughter Lorna born Sydney 27/8/1927 Ann remarried a Osborne Leo or Robert Lancelot Ford Osborne(couldn't find a Leo in NSW I found Robert LF Osborne married to Ann1905. Then I think they went to Melbourne to live next door to her Aunty Ann.

I hope that person emails me today so I can put this branch to sleep
