Eames Report 9 Jun 2008 22:27

OKaaaaaaay... I'm sure I asked few years ago about this and I STILL cannot find this blasted family...

Let me give you info on them *flexes fingers"

Elizabeth Ann Hardy b 2 June 1864, Edinburgh, Midlothian d Unknown (was told before she died before husband)
William O'Leary b abt 1865, unknown POB possibly Ireland, d 15 April 1905

Children

William Matthew O'Leary 19 March 1895, on his birth cert.. Address was 51 or 57 Eagle Street, Holborn. (Birth ref St Giles)
Mary Ellen "Molly" b 1892 St Giles district
Ann b ? d ? Was told that she died young of TB

I can find Elizabeth in 1881 working as servant in London. But cannot for my life can find her in 1891 and 1901 (that is if she survived 1901). Or her hubby and kids.

William and Elizabeth was married on 27 Nov 1887 in Westminster.
His occupation was Blacksmith
William's father was William O'Leary occ Printer. That helps eh?

William (1865?) died in 1905 of TB and on his death cert, the address he resided in was 107 Wardour Street, Westminster and his occ was Market Porter.

What I wanted is the location of family of William and Elizabeth with children in 1891 and 1901. And of William with his family before marriage in 1871 and 1881 (was told that they came to England in late 1860s).

I'm not worried about Elizabeth in past Censuses as I have her OK. She also died from TB.

Sorry this is long winded, but come on.. I've been searching for good many years! It's driving me round the bend, even asked anyone to donate me some eyes! I certainly dont want to wait for 1911.. I'm impatient for that ;)

Sorry rambling on again..

Thanks,

T

Hi T,
tried looking for them but didnt even get a close match.
Sorry..
Will try again later and see what happens.
Do you think Elizabeth may have still been a servant in 1891?

Eames Report 10 Jun 2008 11:25

Hi Lee..

It;s a possibly as I've no idea what happened to them in 1891. She can be anything for all I know!

I did try Elizabeth, no surname born Scot*, Edin* or Midlothian - nothing,. Even tried London just in case, still nothing.

The story is that Elizabeth Hardy's family disowned her when she went ahead to marry William who wasnt so well off, because Elizabeth was from a well to do family.

Helps huh? .. Not ;)

If only we could go back in time and tell our ancestors to make it easy for us to find them!! Mind you that would take away the joy when you can actually find them..

Anyway i found this on the 1891, probably no help but you never know, or maybe you have already seen it and ruled it out but here it is anyways..

Julia,

Forgot to mention that I did come across that in BMD. but I'm not too sure if it's her, I cant afford Certs right now (but I will get her death cert one to tos see). Let's say that's her.. Where would she be in 1891 .. Thats the question :D

Thanks for looking - much appreciated.

Thanks Lee..

Age is a bit out but hey ho it's not like she's the first woman whose age was altered :D I'm not saying it's not her.. That was another possible.

I'm worried that this family wasn't living together at the time of the census and was scattered elsewhere with relations!

Lee in Oz Report 10 Jun 2008 11:39

Well that would certainly make it more difficult if they were scattered around..

I'm off for now but if you've had no luck when i'm back online tomorrow i'll have another go..

Eames

Eames Report 10 Jun 2008 11:42

OK.. They're not likely go anywhere, so can wait .. (Well I have for many years!).

sorry I couldn't find anything on cencus other that what you have

but you probably have this as well but will post anyway

Annie O'leary St.Giles 1895 1b 626

Eames

Eames Report 10 Jun 2008 12:32

Hi Julia..

They didnt go to Ireland according to my great Uncle who was William Matthew's son.

William Matthew 1895 went into Navy as young lad. He married in 1919, Westminster. Died in 1940, Uxbridge, Middlesex aged 45.

Mary Ellen "Molly" 1892 went to train as a Nurse. Never married, died in 1966 Poplar, London.

That census is a possibility, thanks for that.. Never thought that she might've been in Sussex. That's one avenue to follow to see if she's the same Mary Ellen.

Thanks,

T

If this could be William (and this one is a blacksmith), it also suggests that Elizabeth may have died and the family broken up:

Name: Wm Oleary
Age: 34
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1867
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Grace
Gender: Male
Where born: Ireland

Civil Parish: Kensington
Ecclesiastical parish: St Clement

Country: England

Registration district: Kensington
Sub registration district: Kensington Town
ED, institution, or vessel: 36

Household schedule number: 86
Household Members:
Name Age
Grace Oleary 28
Wm Oleary 34

Who registered the death in 1905?

Eames

Eames Report 10 Jun 2008 21:51

Hmm my great uncle never mentioned if William was remarried, dont think he was.. But I'll email him and ask!

William was registered by a Resident Medical Officer, Cleveland Street Asylum, St Pancras. Location of his death was Central London Sick Asylum.

Doesnt really help does it..?

Been unable to trace a second marriage for William O'Leary after the possible death of Elizabeth. Maybe William didn't marry Grace or they may have married on the Isle of Wight as that was her place of birth???
