Find Ancestors

I am sooooooooo sorry about this. I had no idea how to get your replies. Not sure if you have access to my tree but if so you will see that I am not getting there - I have the Tuffnells back to the point where the name changed from Tuffnail to Tuffnell.

I have really enjoyed reading your blog and will now be able to use it as a point of reference to check my research. You are both obviously experts and I can gain a lot from what you have written.

And I would also mention I have tried gentle assistance pointing newbies to useful free sites, even had a Notepad note to cut & paste ready, but even then some of them come back again and again asking for easily available info.

On one level I do agree with you - but I would like David 1 to come back and say that he has looked on FreeBMD and not found him, or he does not know where to look - in which case we can point him in that direction. I'm always happy to do CR searches as I have Ancestry but I try to encourage newbies to check out FreeBMD for themselves. If they find it a struggle they can come back and say and we will help but at least they could try first.

Take issue if you like, that's your prerogative, but had it actually occured that David1 might actually be struggling. I am sure if he could find the information for himself he would, I doubt he would make the effort to ask for help. It could also be that he had found the information and just needed some reassurance!

David might well know his ancestors were blacksmiths, I knew my great grandfather was a geologist when I started out 25 years ago but I knew very little else.

Then, if you do not have access to 1901 census - come back again and ask for a 1901 lookup for him - he may be easy enough to spot. Mind you, once you have his birth cert you will know mum and dad's names and can find their marriage and you'll have more info - so you'll be able to ask for 1901 and earlier ...

When did they marry?

My grandfather was Frederick Thomas Tuffnell (1900) he married Constance Maud Annie Richardson (1903). I am looking for Frederick's ancestors. They originate in and around Bedford (Wilstead) and I believe they could have been Blacksmiths by profession.

Any help anyone can give would be appreciated. Thanks David.
