Thanks Kath. I think I'll need to order some certificates and see parent details to be certain of who's who.

Do the discharge papers give a next of kin or addresss?

Ian Report 2 Aug 2008 12:42

I have a problem now with the appearence of Isabella Gill. My dad has a discharge papers for a T J Gill, or what he presumed to be a J T Gill due to the other John Thomas Gills in the family. On this he has a date of birth of 1874 which doesn't match up to any of the records already provided on the thread here.

Can anyone find this T J Gill. He was discharged from SS Prince of Wales but only spent a few months on it.

Ian,

Jas. is an abreviation for James. The fact that the name John is in brackets means that one of Ancestry's subscribers has made a correction to the name that Ancestry has transcribed.

I've just got off the phone with my dad with a few more details.

Annie Gill, Nee. Hart

Buried
mon 19th november 1934

Anfield Cemetary

-------------------------------------------
Burial and ecclesistical fee.
16th August 1922
From Messrs Thomspons Ltd

Internment of the Late Isabella Gill *** Must do search as new name ***
In section 4 of 1698 General Division
Funeral held on 16th August 1922 at 3pm

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mr Gill, 46 Conyers Street, Liverpool
November 19th, 1934
Funeral expenses to the late Annie Gill
Intered novermber 19th, 1934
Including cost of opening private grave.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now from what my grandma says Annie Hart was my great granddads first wife however my dad seems to think that my great granddad was a widow for a long time so these details of Annie don't sound as though she was the first wife. So 'Louise' who I earlier found out was his second wife, might in fact be his first wife. But I have no other details on her.

Kathleen,

I notice in the 1891 census it says Jas Gill and underneath it says John gill in square brackets. I thought Jas was abreviation of James rather than John. The names match up though from the 1901 census.

It's not going to be too much help as it comes after 1901 but my grandfather Ronald Gill b.30/11/1924 had siblings called Jean, Charles, Edward and Tommy. Dates of birth are unknown for these at the moment.

I've also found out that John Thomas Gill b.1895 was not only married to Annie Hart in 1916 but also married a Louise as Annie died early.

John Thomas' father was also called John Thomas Gill as shown in the marriage certificate but there seems to be some belief that his wifes name was Catharine so the lookup by Lorraine looks as though it may be correct.

My dad said that he met his grandfather somewhere around 1966. He at that time was about 16 years of age and his grandad was about 69 years of age so the numbers seem about right give or take a year or two.

If the above lookup by Lorraine is correct then are there any other details to be had from earlier census searches for this family?

Ian

Ian Report 1 Aug 2008 12:46

Unfortunately this is all I have to go on so far. I got this marriage from my grandfathers details I think. I'l have a word with my father and see if I can gain any more clues.

This is a start though. :D

Ian Report 1 Aug 2008 11:50

Hi, It has been a couple of years since I last did any research so obviously I stopped paying the websites for access to census information etc so need help searching as I have just found a marriage certificate I don't recall having last time I did any research.

Anyway here's the information from it.

Date: 1916
Location: The Parish Church of St Mary Kirkdale, County of Lancaster
No. 136
Date: 27th February 1916

John Thomas Gill, Age 21, Batchelor, Profession: Carter, Address at time of marriage: 59 Pugin Street, Father: John Thomas Gill, Carter.

Annie Hart, Age 20, Spinster, Address: 59 Pugin Street, Father: William Hart (Deceased), Dock Labourer.

In the presence of: R Longwarth and M Bellis

This part of the tree, which happens to be my paternal line and the one I'm really interested in has given me problems. Unfortunatley it would appear these problems would have been ironed out a little if I had realised this marriage certificate was in my possession. I feel daft. Any information you can help me with would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
