I believe that John was born in around 1938.
I am now looking at the idea that sissy and Len may have been brother and sister who looked after Alfred and then John. Alfred was an illigitimate son of my grandmother and because John was born disabled maybe, sadly he was given up because his own parents couldn't cope?
Just a thought?
My uncle seems to think that sissy was his moms sister, so her maiden name would have been Handy

Have no idea about the area, my geography is very poor.

I think that I have found out what Cissy was short for - in this case I believe it was Elsie!!
Does that help anyone??
I am still looking for a marriage between a Len Handy and Elsie.
I found out today that sadly John (their son) died only last week!
So near and yet so far.
God Bless him X - Annie

I have a relative who was always called Sis by her brothers (short for Sister) people joined in calling her Sis, it then went to Sissy and then to Cissy, moral is any female called Cissy/Cissie/Sissy etc. could have a real name of just about anything if they have siblings. Not much help huh!!!

Can't be of much help but Cissie I have known as Frances and Frances has been known as Fanny so I would chek out the Fanny Lewis on the marriage ref.

I am in contact with the other members with Alfred Handy in their tree - but we are all 'stuck' at the moment!
We desperately need a new lead!
Any Ideas?
I am going to visit Pattingham churchyard to see if that gives any clues
Thanks - Annie

Reply from Anne

As far as we are aware everyone shared the surname Handy.
We are not sure whether cissy(Sissy) and Len were married, or whether they 'took in' Alfred and John?

Anne sent me the following PM and said that I can put it up.

Dear Selina, I have very limited information at the moment. I only met with my (unknown) cousin and his wonderful family 2 days ago.
My father had an illigitimate brother,Alfred, who the family never knew about. Sadly he has now died and didn't speak much about his past. My cousin - his son only knows that he was bought up in Pattingham near Wolverhampton by a couple called Sissy & Len and another 'son'? called John who was born disabled.
We are not sure if this couple were related but John was known as Handy as well.
Alfred was born in 1915 in Trysull Wolverhampton, and John would have been born around 1940 (ish)
Sorry I don't have much to go on!
Thanks for any help you can give - Best Wishes Annie

Anne - we still need a surname.

I am trying to find A couple who I believe lived in a village near Wolverhampton. They bought up 2 boys , Alfred and John.
I believe that John was disabled.
If anyone can give me any information at all I would be so grateful.
I have met previously unknown members of my family tree, but between us we have come to a standstill and this is the only lead that we have! Many Thanks - Annie
