trying to find birth & death records for Edmund Wi

That should read Edmund William Coste

Hi, thanks to all that have helped me before in my quest! I've now managed to find out the names of my maternal great grandparents and have also contacted my mother's half brother.

He has told me that the Coste's originated in France, obviously I'm keen to go back further to find out when and where in France they came from. Is the only way to do this by buying birth/marriage certificates from GRO? I'll be skint by the time I get anywhere!!

So, what I have already is the following:

Great grandfather: Edmund William Coste born c1872 Clerkenwell, London
Great grandmother: Emma Henrietta Coste (formerly Tustian) born c 1873 Hackney, London
Their children:
Clarice Adelaide Coste born c1896 Hackney, London
Frederick Ernest Coste born c1897 Hackney, London
Rosina Lilian Coste born 1901 Hackney, London

I know Emma Henrietta Coste died in 1905 aged 34 and that Rosina Lilian Coste died in 1957. I've also found WW1 pension records for Frederick and a marriage record for Clarice (married Cockell in Hackney 1914). But this is where it ends, cannot find death records for Edmund, Clarice, Frederick or Rosina.

Also on the 1901 census Edmund was called Edmondvillian Coste.

Where do I go from here, basically I would like to know when the others died and also Edmund's parentage so I can find the French connection(!)

Many thanks

K

you will need his birth cert to see his parents names..

As et you dont have a french connection, so dont worry about that until you find the person born in france

His marriage cert would confirm both their parents names, You do need to buy the basic certs

Hi,

On the 1901 census I believe it reads
Edmond William not Edmondvillian, the writing is not totally clear and the 2 names have been joined up.

Oh, this is what I was looking at, looks like Edmondvillian to me, although I must admits I've never heard that name ever!

Claire

Sorry - at lunch at work when I replied. The Ref Numbers at the marriage I posted are the District Poplar - Vol 1c - Page 988 with the year 1894 and Sept Quarter. You can get them from the General Record Office online for £7. I also had a relation called Mahala from Devon.

Good Luck Kay

By the way agree re the image saying Edward William - names are often mistranscribed so the image is the best version
