Perhaps Annie was not free to marry and so they waited till she was. I was going to suggest you bought a birth cert for either John or James which would give you the mothers maiden name but I can't find them on either Freebmd or Lancsbmd so I don't know. Looks like we may need a big wrecking ball for this one :-) Regards LfW
