Searching for any information on my fathers family.( GODDARD)
In 1923 my family emigrated to Western Australia ,all were born in Brighton.
Thomas Goddard 1878
Agnes Emily Goddard (nee Bond) 1880
Noel Graeham Goddard 1906 ( my father)
Phyllis Goddard 1908
Una Goddard 1921
The only info I have found is an electoral roll entry for 1925, Thomas and Emily are registered in Forrest Sub District. They don't appear anywhere in 1936.

I would love to find any descendants as my father fell out with the rest and returned to UK to fight in WW2.
I would appreciate any tips on how to progress my search.
Thank you all for having the time to read this.

Hi Malan

I have found a few bits n pieces that may help you to find some decendants!

Phyllis GODDARD married in Perth to Harman Robert Thos BAKE in 1939 (reg 899). Harman was born in Wickepin WA on 22 Jan 1914 (from service record) (birth reg 24, Williams district).

He was almost certainly a son of Harman Collingwood BAKE (1877-1932) and Florence nee JOHNSTON (c1879-1975) who married in Victoria in 1913 (reg 3633).

Harman C'wood was born in Donnelly's Creek, Vic in 1877 to Agnes RICE. Agnes married Wm Bernard HUNTER in 1872; Harman's birth is registered under both RICE and HUNTER *but* Wm is not shown as the father! They had 3 previous chn where he is shown as father (1872, 74, 76). No death for Wm B.

Agnes then married (as HUNTER) to Robert Harman BAKE of Cornwall in Vic in 1882, and Harman C took his surname (seems likely Robt was his father anyway!). They did not have any more chn. Robert died in Victoria in 1897 aged 61, son of Robt Rankin BAKE & Louisa FISHER. He arrived in Victoria in Feb 1857 aged 21 aboard Shooting Star. Agnes came to WA with her son and died there aged 88 in 1938. (Sorry i got a bit carried away with all that, I DO love details!)

Phyllis died 21 June 1987 in the Perth suburb of Shelley, aged 70. She is memorialised at Karrakatta Cemetery in the niche wall, IC section, W2/07. Her husband Robert died 5 Aug 1980 aged 66 in the inner Perth suburb of Leederville and is memorialised in the same place.

Mother Agnes Emily GODDARD died aged 85 on 22/11/1964 in Fremantle and is buried at Fremantle Cemetery in the Anglican section, MON A8/497.

I can't find Thos' death.

You could try a volunteer at www.raogk.org as some are willing and able to take pics of headstones or at least tell you if any chn are named. Or they may be able to lookup a newspaper death notice the the state library.

Good luck!

Cheers
Cherilyn

PS No trace of Una though :-(

Dear Cherilyn, wow what a result ! Thank you so much this will really help me. I believe from family gossip that Una had an illegitimate child but not really sure.
I will have to search any family papers we might have but this has really given me a head start.
Once again I can't thank you enough.

Hi,I don't think it is the same Thomas he didn't live in Aus until 1923 was going to ask someone to look at Phyllis death cert as I find it almost impossible to make the Gov/t records work as my broadband speed is so slow!!! That was why I was asking for help, do you or anyone else have any ideas am I doing something wrong?

Thanks Malan

I have checked on a death certificate for my aunt Phyllis from WAus but it seems I will have to jump through hoops to obtain one as it will not be more than 25 years old and looks as though I will have to provide quite a lot of info to order it.
Anyone have experience of this problem?

Some Australia states make you provide lots of identifaction material before sending you a certificate.
(I think that they just like all that 'red tape')

I guess it is because there are still living relatives that would be mentioned on the certificates.

I am amazed that 'Valerie' from W.A. has not added to you post.

She would tell you that the 'West Australian State Library' has an 'Ask a Librarian' service (on-line) -they might be able to trace Phyllis & Harmon BLAKE on the electoral rolls.

They may even be able to look for birth notices in the local papers, do not think there would be to many "Harmon's " listed.

Thank you Julie for your input maybe I should start another thread asking for info on WA and Phyllis and Harman.
