they sure did Andrew, its just darn right annoying! Oh well nothing we can do now!

All i can say is whoever invented the census was a genius - i bet at the time he never thought the census would be so popular hundreds of years later!

Henry's birth? - note his mother's maiden name...

Cheshire Birth indexes for the years: 1846 to 1850
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Mother's Maiden Name Reference
LLOYD Henry Stockport Second Stockport HOLT ST2/10/22

Have you looked at the actual census image to see if the name has been transcribed wrong. I looked at Cheshirebmd (Stockport comes under Cheshire not Lancs) and there was only Thomas 1879 Heaton Norris on there.
Only a suggestion as I was looking at one today where Ancestry, familysearch and the fiche index all said there was a family with surname Samuel head Bennett Samuel. The actual image was (correctly) reversed - the family was Bennett head Samuel Bennett!

hahaha not at all! i should be paying more attention to those trying to help me instead of searching freebmd.com :)

We have a confusion here - Dee has spent the time - I am Dea who says that Thomas + James are the same person.

Dee seems to agree. - there are two of us! - However, I am sure we both would say that you are very welcome to our help

Dea (not Dee). (Xxx Dee)

I think you are right in saying james in probably thomas (so annoying when they change names).

i do believe this is one case that may never be solved, like you said maybe they didnt want to be found! - very strange!

thanks again for you help in this story

Hi Rachelle,

Yesterday I looked for ages, trying all different combinations and I really think the only explanation is that James on the census is actually Thomas.

I never found the family in 1891, found Thomas in 1901, typically with no other family members.

Seems very strange that he turns up with his registered name and yet still cant find his parents, wonder if they were hiding something??

Dea, i never thought of that. your right he most probably is the same person. well it must be the case surely!

thanks

Dea

Dea Report 28 Oct 2008 18:52

I really think that James MUST be Thomas !!

There are no birth records for a James !

If Thomas was born August 1879 - there is no room to fit in a 1 year old James before 1881 Census taken 3rd April 1881

Hi Rachelle,

Don't give up. I was struggling to find a family in the 1861 census, I couldn't find them at all.Their surname was Jacques and LostforWords found them for me, their name had been transcribed as Ignes. There were a couple of younger children on the page with the correct name.Good luck.

Hi Glitter Baby,

I have the marriage cert for Henry and Mary 1870 his occupation is listed as a mechanic. then in 1871 henry is listed as a cotten workhouseman and in the 1881 census listed as a commercial traveller engineer where he lives with mary and a 'james holt lloyd' but this is the last record of any of these people.

Thanks again for your time, its really appreciated

Rachelle Report 27 Oct 2008 21:20

Dear all,

I've hit a brick wall and hoping someone can help me?!

My gt gt grandfather Thomas Holt Lloyd was born 10th August 1879 Heaton Norris, Stockport, lancashire. His father is listed as Henry Lloyd and his mother Mary Leigh.

The only census record i can find for him is 1901 where he is a boarder, but up untill 1901 he disapears - i cannot find him anywhere! I know he is still alive because he marries in 1903/4 then again in 1907. Nor can i find any infor on the parents!

There is also a family rumour that he had a brother called '??? holt lloyd' and the only other holt lloyd i can find in census' is a James Holt Lloyd born 1880. but this fellow also disapears i cannot find him on any census either, nor can i find a death/marriage cert for him!

I'm really asking for some fresh eyes on this so any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance people,

Rachelle whitney Smith
