I have been told that this family had a Sargeant Murdock who was right hand man to Charles 1st but I think that's going to be difficult to prove!

His occ was Coal Miner as were his 2 young boarders

You're going to have to go back quite a few generations to find a connection to Charles 1st. He died in 1649!

I know Margaret, I think that would be a bit too difficult even for the most experienced members of Genes!

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, the computer froze and had to restart a couple of times.

I think I have found Thomas's birth in 1839 but that doesn't quite add up with the census.

I am hoping to find Thomas with his parents - can anyone help please?

Just a mistranscription on the 1851 census, Selena. Ann is 30, wife of John.

Can anyone tell me if they think this could be right with regard to John Murdock?

Just one other thing, sorry to be a nuisance.

I noticed that members of the Parker family are on both the 1851 and 1861 so I am wondering if they are related somehow to the Murdock's.

Curious! Patrick Parker is a lodger in 1851 and William & Elijah Parker are boarders in 1861. Sounds as if there's a family connection, doesn't it?

Selena, did you find the marriage of Thomas and Jane?
I think this is it, there cert would give you his father's name and occupation so you can confirm on census

Just an update to all who helped. I have received two certificates now

1859 Marriage of Thomas Murdock 22, Miner born Beeston to Jane Duxberry 19. Thomas's father is John Murdock a labourer. Jane's father is James Duxberry a Miner.

1839 Birth of Thomas, son of John and Mary. Mary was formerly Clayton. This ties in with the 1841 that Lindsay found.

John Murdock's occupation was a Comber - can anyone tell me what this is?
