I wish to contact Gemma Kemp who has left messages regarding Varney family of Jersey and mainland. She appears to have cancelled her membership of G.R. recently. If you have been in touch with her please tell her that I am a member of the Varney family she is searching for and ask her to contact me. Frances Ann.

Angela,
It's been a long time since you left your post so I hope that you are still a member. My G.G'father was John Varney b. Mar. 1826 at Somerstown, Oxfordshire & baptized at St. Giles Church, Oxford. He was the only survivor of 5 children his mother dying probably in childbirth at 35. His father, William, remarried & lived & died in Middleton Stoney, Oxfordshire John became a baker & then lied about his age to join the Army serving in India until he was about 35.
He fought in the Indian Mutiny of 1857. He returned to U.K. c.1860 as a Colour Sergeant but was court martialled for absence of 1 day and left the Army in Aug. 1861. He married Dinah Aggett of Chagford, Devon & became a warder at Dartmouth Prison for about 20 yrs. He retired to Plymouth & then to Jersey where he died in 1893. I know a lot about the family. I never did contact Gemma Kemp who had ended her membership by the time I left my post to her. I wish I could find her. I hope very much to hear from you.
Frances Ann.
