Hello

After a bit of a break working on other parts of my family I have now received Georgina Alder's birth certificate 16/09/1870 which tells me that her parents were

Charles Alder, a carman and Elizabeth Hannah Alder, formerly Glister. Have found the birth for Elizabeth Hannah Glister June 1848 Aylsham district (which includes Calthorpe) which was amongst the suggestions posted here but am still no nearer to finding a marriage for Charles and Elizabeth, can anyone find a marriage record for me or maybe they didn't marry

You could also try and find the family in 1881 onwards in the hopes that a member of Elizabeth's family is staying with them - bit of a longshot but worth a try.

This will probably not be a complete list - as birth registration was not compulsory until 1875ish - but it might be useful when looking for marriages ...

well thanks everybody that's given me a lot more work to do now when I should be ironing..... So do I look for a marriage now under Older or Alder ? I know you are going to say both !!

The post under the name Older is only the transcription of the census...........you have to allow for such things in this game! All part of the fun..........lol!

You'll get used to it Janet! You learn to recognise the variations of your surnames ... sometimes it's easier having a slightly unusual name as there are less of them to worry about, but more variations in the spellings.

Don't worry it will get easier!

I see that Elizabeth's birthplace was in Norfolk...........

Mother's surname is hardly ever recorded on the IGI

You need the birth cert to find that info

IGI records rarely give mother's maiden name and as she is Elizabeth H on the 1871, I don't think Hannah was her surname.

The IGI might just show her forenames. Sometimes the records say "Mrs Alder" or whatever the name is ...

I found a record on the family search website which says parents Charles Alder and Elizabeth Hannah I assumed it was her maiden name but I suppose I could be wrong would it just show her two christian names/

Is Hannah her surname or a second christian name?

Can anyone find me a marriage between a Charles Alder and Elizabeth Hannah supposedly the parents of Georgina Alder b Sept 1870 reg'd Marylebone.
