Genevieve, We know the 3 NBL censuses that Eric gave snippets of, namely:
Source Citation: Class: RG11; Piece: 5117; Folio: 6; Page: 6; Line: ; GSU roll: 1342236.
Source Citation: Class: RG12; Piece: 4238; Folio 16; Page 26; GSU roll: 6099348.
Source Citation: Class: RG13; Piece: 4812; Folio: 215; Page: 36.

are definitely yours. I think the laundress in Southwark one I posted is her too, seeing as there's a marr to Henry in Southwark:
Source Citation: Class: RG10; Piece: 595; Folio: 110; Page: 52; GSU roll: 818904.

As I said when I posted 1871, I think she was d/o Geo + Caroline, pob=Gt Plumstead.
Here's who I think is her family:

1841 England Census
Civil Parish: Great Plumstead
Hundred: Blofield
County/Island: Norfolk
Country: England
Street address:
Registration district: Blofield
Sub registration district: Blofield

George Glester 25 Norfolk, England Blacksmith
Caroline Glester 20 Norfolk, England
Rt Glester 2 Norfolk, England
Charlotty Glester 1 Norfolk, England

Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece 753; Book: 12; Civil Parish: Great Plumstead; County: Norfolk; Enumeration District: 7; Folio: 9; Page: 13; Line: 16; GSU roll: 438849.

1851 England Census
Civil Parish: Calthorpe
County/Island: Norfolk
Country: England
Street address: Road to Aldborough
Registration district: Aylsham
Sub registration district: Eynsford
ED, institution, or vessel: 22
Household schedule number: 7

George Glister 35 Calthorpe, Norfolk, England Head M Blacksmith
Caroline Glister 33 Aylsham, Norfolk, England Wife M Blacksmiths Wife
Robert Glister 12 Aylsham, Norfolk, England Son U Farm Labourer
Charlotte Glister 10 Aylsham, Norfolk, England Daughter Scholar
Caroline Glister 9 Great Plumstead, Norfolk, England Daughter Scholar
Elizabeth Glister 7 Great Plumstead, Norfolk, England Daughter Scholar
Emily Glister 4 Great Plumstead, Norfolk, England Daughter Scholar

Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 1810; Folio: 287; Page: 3; GSU roll: 207463.

1861 England Census
Civil Parish: Catthorpe [Calthorpe]
County/Island: Norfolk
Country: England
Street address:
Registration district: Aylsham
Sub registration district: Eynsford
ED, institution, or vessel: 11
Household schedule number: 5

George Gleiter [George Gleiter is crossed out - name reads Glister anyways]
Caroline Gleiter 43 Aylsham, Norfolk, England Wife M Dressmaker
Emily Gleiter 14 Great Plumstead, Norfolk, England Daughter U

Source Citation: Class: RG9; Piece: 1205; Folio: 61; Page: 1; GSU roll: 542774.

I think George is off working in Walsingham, even tho this Geo is said to be unmarried:

George Glister 44 Calthorpe, Norfolk, England Servant U (Journeyman) Blacksman

Source Citation: Class: RG9; Piece: 1246; Folio: 56; Page: 3; GSU roll: 542783.

1871 England Census
Civil Parish: Matlaske
Town: Matlaske
County/Island: Norfolk
Country: England
Street address:
Registration district: Erpingham
Sub registration district: Cromer
ED, institution, or vessel: 11
Household schedule number: 5

George Glister 54 Calthorpe, Norfolk, England Head M Blacksmith
Caroline Glister 51 Aylsham, Norfolk, England Wife
Herbert G Glister 9 Calthorpe, Norfolk, England Grandson Scholar
Albert Glister 6 Norwich, Norfolk, England Grandson Scholar

Source Citation: Class: RG10; Piece: 1799; Folio: 46; Page: 1; GSU roll: 838798.

I think Pamela is misrecorded as Emily in 1861, but she's definitely different from Emily in Southwark.
Of course, seeing that Aylsham/Calthorpe seems to be Glister central for the UK, Pam is probably some flavour of cousin.

I think your best bet for sorting out this mess of worms is to get Emily + Henry's m.cert.

hello everyone, now im really concerned have i been tracng the wrong family??? i hope not...?? the emily glister i have is amelia bartell's mother born 1878, can someone please help? thankyou

mgnv Report 24 Nov 2008 02:00

Genevieve - have you seen Henry + Emily's m.cert? Who are their fathers and what are their occups?

Marriages Dec 1873 (>99%)
Bartell Henry St Olave 1d 358
Glister Emily St Olave 1d 358
HAINES James St. Olave 1d 358
Sullivan Annie St.Olave 1d 358

[NB St Olave is an alternative name for St Olave Southwark, so it can't be far from St Saviour Southwark]

1871 England Census
Civil Parish: St Saviour
County/Island: London
Country: England
Street address: 31 Dyers Building
Registration district: St Saviour Southwark
Sub registration district: St Saviour Southwark
ED, institution, or vessel: 3
Household schedule number: 280

Sarah Lees 65 Cripplezate [Cripplegate] Head W Hook Counter
Emily Glester 23 Harwich Laundress

Source Citation: Class: RG10; Piece: 595; Folio: 110; Page: 52; GSU roll: 818904.

[I presume Harwich is a misrecording of Norwich]

Personally, I don't think Emily was born in Norwich, but rather in Great Plumstead, 8 km to the E, and she was d/o George (blacksmith) + Caroline. I'm rather keen to know if I've guessed right. (There's no matching Blofield GRO index entry, though.)

hi jim yes my emily was born in norwich, could it be possible emily was adopted by sarah and robert glister? as she isnt on the 1851 yet she was born around 1848? and appears on the 1861 census as 11 years old? but pamela is on the 1851 census as 1 year old and disappears off the 1861?? could it be she unfortunatly passed away young? and they adopted emily??? the pamila/amila you found, that u thought might be emily, couldnt be her as she died in 1872, when emily married in 1873 and then goes on to still be on the 1901?? this is all a bit odd and i dont have a clue what happened?? i can only hope this mystery will be unravelled, thankyou, regards, genevieve.

Genevieve

Genevieve Report 19 Nov 2008 08:52

hello glitter baby, i must have looked at wrong census as i found one with an emily glister aged 23 as a servant, i just cant get my head round why they would have changed her name if its her, and why isnt it on her marriage cert that her name is pamila/pamela? the emily glister ive got married a henry bartell in 1873 and had 6 children including my great grandmother amelia bartell, thankyou, best regards genevieve.

GlitterBaby Report 19 Nov 2008 08:14

The 1871 image for Emila does actually show as Pamila and she is in the Smallburgh registration district which could match the death in 1872

So she is listed in 1851 and 1871 clearly as Pamela/Pamila

Genevieve

Genevieve Report 18 Nov 2008 23:46

hello jim, the 1871 record u found was the record u found in southwark christchurch? and she was a laundress? what i dont understand is that record says emily? as i originally thought but then pamela came up and has thrown my tree up in the air and completely confused me why would her name have been changed if it was? thankyou, regards, genevieve.

Genevieve

Genevieve Report 18 Nov 2008 23:15

hello jim thats quite strange u might say emila as i recieved an email today from ancestry with a hint that emily was emila but as im only a free member on there, i looked for that name on here but returned no matches does it say that emila's parents were robert and sarah? thankyou

Nickydownsouth

Nickydownsouth Report 18 Nov 2008 22:30

You may find that the name was simply misheard on the 1851, and is correct in 1861......... I have the same in one of families....... down as Edward in 1841, but pretty sure he is actually Frederick..... I suppose Ed...Fred....easily done,

I would also have thought that Pamela was a pretty unusual name in 1851....more common 100 years later.

So she should be quite easy to trace. Have you found baptisms/birth registerations for all the children including Emily?
