A big thanks to you all as I found Jessie White and her daughter and we have been in touch. Her daughter provided me with a photo of her mother (my grandads sister). It was very moving.

FreeBMD is not complete. Even though most births for 1916 may be listed, not all of them are, including the one that you are interest in.

To search the full marriage indexes on Ancestry will mean looking at each year, quarter by quarter, until you find the one you want. The later ones are not indexed yet so you have to look at each image manually.

I have ordered the birth certificate but my Gut says I have found her.

Why do you think it is not on free BMD?

Also can I not search the marriage on Ancestry? by simply guessing the year and saying +/- 10 years?
Why will this not work? (sorry I am new?)

freebmd a site used to search years until about 1925 but this one was not on there

You would only be sure of this Jisse birth if you ordered a certificate
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
cost£7 and would give parents names to confirm it is yours.
A marriage for her would have to be searched on index pages year by year/quarter by quarter! as it hasn't been transcribed on free search site for later years yet, a lot of searching as you have no idea of approx year even if she got married

My Grandad was born 30th April 1915 Alfred White

He was told he had a sister called Jessie and he tried to find her and never found her.

He was left in a flat at 10 months old and ended up living with his grandparents. He also never found his mum or dad (Jessie Florence White late Shuttleworth nee Evans or Ebenezer White his dad)

when was your grandad born?

Heather

When I say search I mean a search either on Births on Genes reunited or on Ancestry births. neither bring up Jissie

Heather Report 24 Nov 2008 14:04

I found her by manually clicking each quarter for her birth and in 1916 I found a Jissie F White born with an Evans mother and although I thought her name was Jessie (or that is what my Grandad was told that he had a sister Jessie) I think as her mother Jessie F Shuttleworth could not write she probably listed her as Jissie.

I am confused by the marriage point - can you explain further what you mean by the fact that I cannot search for their marriage on Free BMD? I am relatively new to this.

The one kindly listed by Janice is her parents.

Someone born 1916 will not have married until mid 1930's at the earliest and FreeBMD doesn't cover that far.

You need to be searching the FULL marriage indexes on Ancestry (or similar sites) and these are not name indexed, you have to search each year manually, quarter by quarter.

I'm also a bit confused by what you mean when you say that you cannot get her up on a search. A search where? And is it Jessie or Jissie?

I have been searching ages for Jessie White born (approx 1916) to Jessie Florence White 1886 (late Shuttleworth nee Evans) and by painstakingly clicking on the births for any J Whites for over 10 years I found

Jissie F White born 1916 Dec quarter 1c Poplar 860

But it still does not appear on any search I do with those parameters which prevents me searching for any marriages etc for her. Can anyone help me get it up on a search? and also find her marriage?

Any help would be so very much appreciated as we have discovered Grandad Alfred White had a whole sister (Jissie) and I would like to try and trace her.

Thanks
