Ian Report 28 Nov 2008 16:04

I have been trying to search for some info on behalf of my mother who wishes to find out absoloutely anything about her birth mother/family who gave her up for adoption in 1944.All we have is her birth certificate.
My mother was born Carol Price(name later changed to Dorothy Packwood when adopted ) on 19/7/1944 at Sunnyside Maternity Home, Cheltenham U.D.
Her mother was Kathleen Price(formerly Trafford) of Romeo Churchdown,Gloucester R.D
.She was registered on 14/8/44

I am asking for help as my mother after all these years wants to find out about where she came from and if she has any brothers/sisters.She recently told me she has always wanted to know to feel "complete" about her life.
Thankyou, Ian Wharrie

Do you know if Kathleen had a middle name?

Ian

You need to delete your email address from your post - it is against Gene's Terms and Conditions and they may remove your post.

It looks as if your mother's mother was married so you will need to search the marriage registers to find the husband. I don't have access to them but I am sure somebody on here will do it for you.

To find other children of the couple, you would need to search the birth registers, looking for children with the surname Price with a mother's maiden name of Trafford.

These searches can be quite time consuming as you have to search each year quarter by quarter.

Have you tried putting the names you have in the Search Trees box at the top of the screen? Somebody with a tree on here might be related.

Good Luck

Ian,
Found the same marriage as Richard, have left message on TTF board.

Trafford is quite unusual so if the person that Val has found is a sibling, this could be her marriage.

Norma E C Price married Doyle L Jenkins AMJ quarter 1954 Cheltenham 7b 629.

You really should only post on one board.

Thankyou so much everyone who has helped.

It seems to be too much of a coincidence that my mother and Norma Price shared the same surname and mothers maiden name and were born in the same area.I have told my mother and she is really excited of the chance this could be her sister(but realises it could not be as well) I am trying now to find info on Norma(especially if her mother was called Kathleen) or her husband or if they have children to see if she is still alive but am struggling to find anything.Has anyone got any ideas please?

Once again, thankyou for all your help.

You must buy the birth certificate for Norma, thats the only way you will find out. £7 from GRO using above reference.

Hi Ian,

I would do exactly what Julie has suggested.

There will be help on here for you and your Mum, but you need to be very sure you are tracing the correct relatives to go forwards.

I do feel for your Mum as I was adopted, but my story has a happy ending, and so may hers be the same.

Kind regards
Amanda

Hi Ian

Another possible sibling for your mum.

Birth: Phyllis A A Price mmn Trafford - 1939 Q3 Gloucester C ref. 6a 665

As others have already said.....you need to buy the birth certs to be absolutely sure that you are tracing the correct family.

Once proved by birth cert that you have the right family ,( they will cost you £7 each from the above site )the search would then be on for possible marriage for them to give you possibly their surname now

Thankyou for everyone's help so far!!!
I have now both birth certificates and my mother now knows after 64 years of life she has two sisters !
The birth certificates match all my mothers details on her certificate including the exact address of residence, exact mothers name and exact mothers maiden name.
The next thing mum wishes to do is trace her sisters and any info on her mother (now have her middle name of Ethel)but we need help please.

The new info is- for Norma, born Norma Evelyn Ceridwen Price on 15/11/1934 district- chepstow, sub district lydney, mother Kathleen Ethel Price(nee Trafford),father John Stuart Price, engineer fitter of holly tree cottage, whitecroft

For Phyllis-born Phyllis Ann Astley Price on 11/7/1939,district Gloucester, mother Kathleen Ethel Price(nee Trafford) of Romeo,Pirton Lane,Churchdown,Gloucester(Exact same address as my mothers birth certificate!),father John Stuart Price

Still have no info on Phyllis whatsover.

Thankyou, Ian

Ian, If you have read my earlier reply on your thread you will see that it is highly likely that Norma E C Price emigrated to America as she married an American man in the forces. Perhaps someone based in America or has access to American records can search for you?

Brenda

Ian Report 10 Dec 2008 20:05

Thankyou Brenda, will try and search the American link, still trying find anything for "Phyllis ann astley price" with reference to a marriage for her to see if she now has a married surname and still lives in this country and her/my mums mother " kathleen ethel price"
Think Phyllis may be easier to find than Norma, just hope she didnt follow her sister to America.
Once again THANKYOU!
