Hi Heather,
No not a wild Goose chase, dates match up & names, it seems his Son took over the reins in the 50s, now Ive googled it, it makes sense, I didnt have any first names, only Lord Stephenson, which seemed a joke to some, Squire , Prince , Etc, .
Now and again you do find someone unusual, and sometimes ask for help, unfortunately for me, I usually get stick from some members, however, If I said I was talking to the Duke & Duchess of Kent outside St Pauls Cathedral tonight would anyone believe me?.

Merry Chistmas.

His marriage was in 1905 and he was knighted in 1924. Did you get the lord from one of his childrens marriages?

If not who told you he was a lord.?

Does the information given by Lorraine help?

Just a thought but they could be tinkers or even gypsies. Victorian gypsies often used elaborate names to distinguis from other traders or hawkers in the local markets or fairs. My ancestor was called Hannibal (first name) but other names include Christiana, Lavinia, Alexander ... all quite colourful.

You can get Squire and Prince aswell - most disappointing when you find its just a first name :(

You need to buy the marriage cert and see the details of his father and occupation. What was the wifes name? Where did they live? Have you bought any of the kids birth certs?

Either of these?

There's a Lord Stephenson born 1840, Halifax, Yorkshire. He was a grocer on the 91 census. Lord was just a christian name not a title.
