Heres the family from 1881. You will need one of the childrens birth certs for Ellens maiden name if you want to find parents marriage, its too common a name to find otherwise.

Thanks very much. I think that is him because I know that his mother and fathers names were William and Ellen. Never thought William would be from Ireland, how interesting.

Yes found him on the1901 census in Birkenhead as he was in the navy but I would like to order his birth certificate to go back further in my family tree.

Ive been looking for my great grandfather Edward Charles White, b 3/10/1879, Portsmouth, on the birth register but cannot find him anywhere. Can anybody help?? Thankyou
